This otherwise brilliant selection is hugely undermined for me by the ridiculous omission of one classic episode.

There were 3 'Famous Five' programmes, all wonderful, yet the middle one, possibly the funniest of the lot 'Five Go Mad on Mescalin' is not here !!! This leaves some references in the fantastic 2012 episode unexplained.

WHY WHY WHY ???

Being a Rik Mayall fan all my life - well, since I was 3 - I have collected everything he has ever done. The more I can get on official release the better and this official release is extremely welcome. The newer episodes of the Comic Strip films are on this DVD set and they are excellent. There is even the documentary celebrating 30 years of the Comic Strip films included and this set is worth purchasing for that show alone. Some of the old characters like Den and Spider from Bad News are re-introduced to us all again in a very funny way.

Yes, it's a bit sad that the newer episodes were not just released on their own, but this set will introduce people to some of the other older Comic Strip films if they have not seen them before and hopefully this will inspire them to locate and purchase the previous DVD box set of the films.

Peter Richardson is a modern day genius, in my eyes, and he doesn't get the credit he deserves. Hopefully more people will buy this and spread the word about what proper comedy and satire is really all about.

As an owner of the PREVIOUS comic strip collection its annoying to buy this 5 disc, 20 episode best of collection just to get the newer stuff like THE HUNT FOR TONY BLAIR which could have been done on a smaller, separate release for us fans who got the previos set. Mind you, considering this is 5 discs, its a very good price, certainly not overcharging for the double dip.

Bad News 1 and 2, Five Go Mad In Dorset, Strike, Gino, Mr Jolly Lives Next Door, Spaghetti Hoops, Red Nose of Courage, Bulls***ers, Detectives on the Edge of a Nervous Breakdown, The Crying Game, Four Men in a Car, Four Men in a Plane are the best episodes and touched with genius. Must buy!!!

Why oh why the edits in the bad news films. Ruined the set for me as they're some of the finest comic strip moments. The whole 'that's what you get if you don't turn traitor on your music.....'speech gone.

bought this cause it has the 3 best comic strip films on it...bad news..more bad news (saw them at donnington) and fistful of travellers...all great but they have edited the 2 bad news films into one and cut about 10 mins out..why...completely spoilt it for me...will get the full box set for the complete versions...be warned

The various titles offered are a pretty good choice and yes there are the episodes that came after the last box set but the Bad News pair have been edited together - and then subjected to several cuts that ruin the flow and timing of the stories. Really - it's a bloody crime that someone was let loose with a copy of Premiere and told to rip out so many minutes presumably so it would all fit on the disc. Consider the track listing as it is but forget about the Bad News elements because they've been amateurishly butchered, ruining the experience.
Still, it does have Fistful and Mr Jolly too so it's not all doom & gloom.
