At last!!!
After what seems to have been 7,978,801.5 years in the making the product (Comeuppance) has finally hit the shelves.
For the uninitiated: Sphere3 are a marvellous band that hark back to those days when it mattered that musicians could actually play something with more than a degree of superficial competence on their choosen instrument.
And believe you me, these boys can and do!
The music contained within this CD is melodic, subtle, challenging, aggressive (beyond belief!), surreal and at times quite simply beautiful.
It's almost impossible to find high(er) points contained here as 'Comeuppance'is one of those rare finds where there are no bad moments on offer, but I will give special notice to the album closer 'Paralysis', a track of such immense power as to have caused structural damage to my house.
Listeners beware,check your insurance!
I would urge anyone into King Crimson, Hatfield and the North, Brand X, Kenso or anything remotely different to give this band a listen.
You will not be dissapointed, five stars is not enough... :0)
Ciao, Shrimpsng.

I am totally blown away by this album. The first 4 tracks are immense. They are good to listen to and have some real depth and skill. If you haven't heard Sphere3 (like I hadn't) they have touches of Bruford (Bill!) plus a few other hints of other styles (Holdsworth, plus more). There isn't a weak link in the group - everyone is of the highest standard. I like tracks 5 and 6 least (not that they are bad in any way, just not as good as the rest to me) but the later tracks are just as good as the first 4. It pains me that they have only produced one album. I would really like to buy more of this excellent music. I'm on my 6th or 7th run through of the album and I am still discovering new treats.

I know that the keyboard player has a stint with IQ (which I am looking forward to seeing soon) which may prevent further work with Sphere3 but I hope these talented musicians would consider another album. If you like music that makes you listen, is a technical masterpiece and hits the spot, this is the album.

This album was a long time in the making. The instrumental quartet play a type of “fusion”, but this is no rock based jazz noodling. All the material is tightly arranged and has a strong progressive rock element. The compositions are very strong and quite varied in textures, with guitar and keyboards very much to the fore. The final track, “Paralysis” is particularly impressive. It’s very symphonic in execution, with a wonderful mellotron signature used to dramatic effect. The production is very detailed, in particular the cymbals sounding very clear and precise. Not since the days when Brand X were at their peak has a British band, performing complex instrumental rock, impressed so much. This is another top release from the excellent Cyclops label. Let’s hope we won’t have to wait too long for a second album.
