Product Description

For years, they called her Norway's best-kept secret. She hit the stage each night in a blur of blonde hair, gutsy vocals and stinger riffs, converting the crowd with charisma worthy of the man tattooed on her left shoulder (Jimi Hendrix). Night after night, club after club, always the same question. Who's that girl…? Now, at last, the secret is out, as Christina Skjolberg breaks cover and proudly plants her flag with her debut studio album on Ruf Records, 'Come And Get It' is not just a bold album title, but also a direct instruction to any music lover who wants to kick-start their year of listening. "I had a fantastic time writing and recording this album," says Christina, "and I hope that you'll have a good time listening to it, too.

There are so many bluesmen and women that one might wonder where to start...
I've tried many of those artists, and all have left me cold, but with Christina Skolberg this is quite a different story. First of all what I appreciate here, is that this album feels like a solo effort but with a band spirit, meaning it's not just guitar solos-a-gogo buttered on a halfdecent rhythm section. No, what we have here, is a SOLID bass/drums section, well produced, some solid rhythm guitar playing and some great guitar and organ solos (and some additional arrangements).
While this is the main attraction for me, I also very much enjoy her guitar tone, it's very ballsy and never gets mellow or clinical. This is blues/ rock with a hint of soul territory.

While Christina might not be a first class singer, I think she delivers pretty well in that department too (She's got that Sue Foley "thing" in her voice that I really appreciate).Never does it feel like she's overdoing it.

The songs (and the album) are relatively short, and I definitly wish that some soloing had been extended, but this is a minor criticism.

Yes, come and get it!

Central Europe is a rich mine for fine female Blues Rock artists and Christina Skjolberg, hailing from Norway is the latest hotshot to throw down the gauntlet to the testosterone fuelled male gunslingers. Skjolberg impressed on this year's Blues Caravan tour that ripped through Europe in tandem with Laurence Jones and Albert Castiglia and the lady was not found wanting.

Great time then to release her debut album 'Come and Get It,' and mighty fine it is too, weighing in at a little over 40 minutes with 11 booming tracks, 9 of which are self penned. Economic on time but expressive and explosive with talent. To stand out in this crowd of talented individuals you need a USP and Christina has found her own, visually and sonically. A rare left handed player and a lady that adopts a refreshing funky sassy groove to her music.

Across the 11 tracks something to please all tastes. The title track barrels out of the speakers providing early evidence of Skjolberg's funky credentials, deep rhythmic beats, hook laden and then spliced open with a distorted choppy solo. Runaway takes that groove down even lower, pulsing and grinding along on a ballsy riff and a torrent of reverb that is very satisfying. The fast opening pace is sustained on the sleazy Close the Door, Skjolberg's prowess as a powerful vocalist and a lady not to be messed with in evidence, combining with Hammond Organ flurries and another distorted lead break. Brash confidence abounds here.

The first direction change arrives on the humungously slick funky Get On, think Stevie Wonder (Superstition) and you have the coda this corker of a track. Big fat drum and bass beats, seismic brass section chiming in and another taut choppy riff from the leading lady, you will be moving along to this one for sure.
