Eleanor Trewynn is once more involved in a murder when her friend and neighbour Nicholas Gresham finds the body of a fellow artist in a pool of blood with a dagger sticking out of his back. The fact that the artist has damaged Nicholas's own paintings gives D I Pearce a cast iron motive for treating Nicholas as prime suspect. The case is soon handed over to the grumpy D I Scumble and Eleanor's niece, Megan who is a detective sergeant.

This is an interesting mystery with artistic and personal rivalries as a background. It can be read as a standalone novel but it is the second instalment in a series of Cornish mysteries set in small town on the Cornish coast. The characters are well drawn and believable and I like Eleanor and her friend the vicar's wife. The police characters are interesting too with the perennially sarcastic D I Scumble who seems to be mellowing a little as he gets to know both Megan and her aunt.

If you enjoy relatively slow paced mysteries with interesting plots and background then give this series a try.

I would have given this book a higher rating but for the fact that I guessed "who done it" right from a very early stage, and kept hoping I was wrong! I wasn't! This second book in a series of three was fun, lively and enjoyable, just as many reviewers have said before me, but I would have liked a plot where I got a surprise at the end, not a story where I felt personally that the end was so obvious. For a light read I would recommend A Colourful Death. If you want a book that will keep you guessing this is possibly not the one for you. I was disappointed!

Definitely the worst book in the Cornish Mystery series - nothing much happens, and the killer is pretty obvious after the first few pages. Pity, because the other two in the series are excellent, with plenty of action.

Read other Carola Dunn books but was disappointed by this storyline. Not up to her Daisy Dalrymple books and did not like main character..

I loved this book. In fact, it is the middle of three books out so far, all excellent.
Eleanor Trewynn is the central character, with her lovely west highland terrier Teazle as her constant companion.
Interesting supporting characters such as her niece Detective Sergeant Megan Pencarrow and her boss DI Scumble;
Nick Gresham, the artist lives next door to Eleanor and her friend Jocelyn Stearns is the wife of the vicar and organises
the LonStar Shop. Eleanor is retired from her charity work, but is a fabulous example of a very active and caring person.

I can't wait for another Cornish Mystery to be published.

This book gave me some insight of the world of art, it's passions and also it's strong emotions that lead to a crime. Lovely description of Cornwall and it's many different features. Characters led you to the conclusion with many adventures along the way
