Pearl Handled Revolver are the band that I felt would come along at some point, I just didn't appreciate how long it would take, but it was worth the wait. That is, if your are a Doors fan. Hearing a single track on a compilation CD made me realise that here was a singer who sounded like the late Jim Morrison and the band playing as if they were soul brothrs of the Doors. The Doors influence is obvious, but Pearl Handled Revolver play with their own style and I cannot get enough of them. Colossus is their first album, and what an album it is. I cannot wait for the 'difficult' second album, which I have no doubts will be as strong as, if not stronger than this one. As I can only see this band going from strength to strength.

This is an amazingly confident debut album from a self-styled 'dirty blues' band although that epithet slightly misleads. This is not traditional blues although homage is paid at every step of the way to the genre as a whole. Pearl Handled Revolver have a way of distilling the very best from the musical past and reinventing it in a new and innovative way. From the opening track - the rock orientated 'Stone Thrower' through the slower, more laid back songs such as 'Resonate' and 'Stop Me Dead' to the final epic which is the eponymous 'Colossus' it is clear that this is a band who are confident of their own abilities and are prepared to showcase them in uncompromising fashion. No wonder these guys have gathered such great reviews from the rock press as a whole and have attracted a growing fan base on both sides of the Atlantic.

This album is essential listening for anyone looking for new directions in rock music. Buy with confidence - you won't be disappointed.

Fantastic album from a fantastic band. Bought this online from iTunes the day it came out and it is sure to be in my album rotation for quite a while. Hopefully one day they'll be huge enough to be touring the biggest festivals and we can all get to see them live, which is when they really shine!
