This is about the only Breton course in English. It would have been worth 4 to 5 stars if only it had continued to give the dialogue translations (maybe at back of book) after lesson 5. The CDs are essential. If you know French, Assimil's Breton sans Peine is the best.

wonderful introduction to the Breton language

the colloquial series can produce fantastic courses that really do present the language as spoken (speaking Scottish Gaelic and Icelandic I can see how much these really represent the languages as they are actually used and spoken and not an academic description of the language) - but sometimes the courses can be more a tedious academic study of the language ( e.g colloquial Tamil) where you do not feel that you are getting anywhere nearer to speaking to the people in their real language. Colloquial Breton is definitely in the first group, presenting you with language of real use and real life. It gives you real everyday language while giving you a good foundation in the grammar of the language, without overwhelming you in detail that most people would not understand.

It is great to see such a good strong course for a language that it is difficult to get any decent learning material for, esp if you are coming from complete scratch with no prior knowledge but does not leave you are beginners stage but takes you to a good level of command of the language. It additionally gives you a grounding on Breton culture and history, that helps put the language in context.

Definitely in the top range of the colloquial series - well done and thank you for producing this course

Easy to use. This volume is suitable for formal study (alone or in a class) or informal - dipping in as necessary. A great buy.
