Having previously purchased the Collins Gem (pocket sized) version of this dictionary I was looking for a physically bigger dictionary that was easier to handle, with bigger print and more words and usage examples.
Certainly this hard-back version is easier to handle. Its print is bigger and easier to read, although the format of the book is identical to the smaller pocket sized version. I'm unable to establish whether this hard-back version contains more words than the smaller version although the sheer number of pages would indicate this.
There are some useful pronunciation guides at the front of the book (in both languages) and contains a small Brazilian vs. Portuguese differences page.
The sheer ease-of-use of this dictionary means I have used it more; it has several, unexpected usage examples which have been of real benefit. I should have bought this book first and the pocket edition later (knowing it would be more cramped and harder to use!)
Whilst I would really like to have found the Portuguese equivalent of a German Brockhaus or similar, they just don't seem to be available. Perhaps a specialist book store might have a such a beast but in the meantime this one has finally met my modest needs and I'm happy with it.
I'm no longer actively searching for anything bigger or better although A-level students and higher probably need to keep looking though.
