I bought this first when learning Norwegian and still use it now I am a professional translator. It is far superior to many volumes costing 2 or 3 times as much - especially those published in Norway which are all very dated by comparison. The Collins is bang up to date and includes many idiomatic expressions as well as the higher registers of language. Especially useful are the many examples which show clearly the correct usage in both languages. This dictionary rarely lets me down despite its compact size and often gives me not just the word I want but the whole phrase to go with it. It's the best dictionary I have ever bought and I highly recommend it. My only criticism: the binding soon fell apart, but then it has had plenty of use.

I bought this dictionary three years ago when I moved to Norway and it is without question the best English-Norwegian dictionary I have seen. I use it all the time and it rarely fails me. A particular advantage is that it often gives whole sentences illustrating the use of a word and this is really valuable when learning a language. It is in an altogether different league to dictionaries published in Norway, which are dull, out of date and somewhat half-baked.
If you need an English-Norwegian dictionary, look no further.

This dictionary is essential to the learning of Norwegian. I have been studying the language on and off for 7 years and I always go back to this dictionary if I am stuck with an understanding of a word and its use in a sentence.
As stated by the other reviewer the only thing to complain about is the binding. I wanted to buy a new copy as mine is so worn (well used) and the pages have a mind of its own, but can't find it anywhere at a decent price. It is a shame that I couldn't get all its brilliance in a more compact size and the binding could be more secure.

This dictionary is so good that only one question springs to the user's mind: when will Collins produce a similar Norwegian-English dictionary?

a good reference
I had looked and looked for an English-to-Norwegian dictionary. You can trust Collins, and this one is good.
