This is the necessary companion to the Collins Concise German English dictionary. It is of the same excellent quality as its companion with a huge vocabulary well adapted for the Kindle. It includes idiomatic phrases eg the entry for food includes the translation of the phrase Food for thought. It also has compound phrases - the translation of the phrase food industry - and translations of slang 'foodie' - (Kochfreak) are up to date. For words with multiple meanings and translations eg 'hot' there are not only translations but examples of the word in use so that the reader can be sure that he is using the correct translation. You are given the gender of German nouns

The translations are accurate and clear. The dictionary is very easy to use on the Kindle and can, of course, be set as the Primary Dictionary when you are reading a German Book.

Although costly, you will probably find yourself buying it in the end if you are seriously studying German so you may as well bite the bullet and start with it!

1. Does not present basic meanings for immediate review but gives many examples in which if you are lucky you will find the basic meaning which is lost amidst a host of examples.
2. Any language with diacritics cannot be extensively used as the keyboard does not give a means of writing letters with diacritics and the softwaredoes not recognise words without diacritics. All teh signs of a software dictionary put together in a hurry by non-professionals. .
Note that every European language uses diacritics.
Collins appear to advise that it is notappropriate to use on Kindle Fire - hence my comments above regarding use on my Kindle Fire.

If you want the full thing, you can't do better than the Oxford Duden but I wanted to have a dictionary I could carry about in my iPad. This does the job. A bit expensive if you're not a serious student.

I originally hoped I could get away with just a German - English dictionary but I couldn't so I got this. It is well structured and easy to get around.

This Kindle edition complements the pre-loaded German dictionary in Kindle. Students of the language will find it a godsend in their luggage if they visit a German-apeaking country. Awkward having to enter the words on the virtual keyboard, but the weight advantage of the Kindle over a printed dictionary gives this the edge.

I bought this book for my kindle as I have re-located to Luxembourg and as Germany is so close for shopping the dictionary has helped me to expand my knowledge of the German language as it allows me to look up individual words.

I would highly recommend this dictionary. Lots of good references and you can look up complete phrases as well as words. Collins is the best.
