The Collection

Vangelis' wonderful new compilation album. Absolutely the best way to get to know this composer, whose timelessness is reconfirmed. The combination of tracks works like a charm, and very few of the really famous tracks are missing. Of course, a lot of great work has to be left out, even for a double CD, but a compilation should never be more than a great starting point.

There's something extra for the avid fans as well: The Blade Runner main titles finally include the spectacular start of the movie, which was never before released, and Line Open is pretty rare. Finally there is a completely new track, called "Remembering". Great material, both relaxing and inspiring.

The tracks are mostly separated (except for the occasional sound effect to break the silence), sound quality is of course sublime. Both CDs are filled to the top. This is great value for money!

Together with the brand-new Chariots of Fire stage play soundtrack release, hitting the market on the very same day as "The Collection", this is proving to be a good summer for Vangelis music. Enjoy!

In years to come this man should be revered and talked about in the same manner as many of the past masters (like Beethoven, Pachelbel, Vivaldi). He writes such beautiful and romantic pieces of music but is also able to write dramatic and edgy pieces too.

There have been almost endless 'collections' of Vangelis works but this double album is drenched in quality. It's pleasing to see that Tears In Rain has been released outside of the Blade Runner soundtrack. This is an ambient/romantic piece that just oozes with class. I am though bitterly disappointed that Antarctica (and Antarctica Echoes) have failed to be added. These are two incredibly beautiful pieces (a shortened version of Antarctica can be found on previous Vangelis collections) and anyone who is only just coming around to Vangelis should also download these tracks!

Some of his chart success was alongside Jon (Anderson from Yes) in the late 70s/early 80s and there are some tracks from this collaboration. I'll Find My Way Home is a personal favourite; there are some keyboard-sound similarities with Vince Clarke (Erasure, Depeche Mode, Yazoo) here. Like Clarke, Vangelis stretches the production of the keyboard sounds to create epic soundscapes full of tweets and trembles (listen to it around 2.28 on a good quality CD system) - beautiful, sublime and awe inspiring songwriting.

This is an incredible album and reminds people of the lost art of writing quality music and the ability to write from the heart. This is synth-pop, synth-classical and classical of the highest order. Many of the tracks are from a time when you didn't need to be a Justin Bieber(!!) to get a record contract and that's exactly why it isn't throw-away like much of what equates to music today.

A must buy album. Enjoy.

Having been a fan of Vangelis for a while I was interested to hear about a new Vangelis best of as there has been many before. What a present surprise to see the track listing for this, yes it has everything you would expect but also some tracks that are harder to find and rare. There is also an unreleased track called Remembering on there.

Not sure who came up with the track listing or the running order but it plays beautifully.. Maybe it was vangelis himself.. does anyone know.
So a great collection of you are already a fan and a great collection if you have never owned a Vangelis album before. Highly recommended

Really quite the Absolute best vangelis compilation in my unhumble statement!
And i am unanimous in that! lol,
A real treat! An aphex aural exiter!.
It is the best box of electronic chocolates my ears have eaten up in years!.
go on - buy it - go on then!, unzip that big aural package and let vangelis's Big synth make love to all of your hearing.
As i said, Chariots bringing gifts, really can travel!
Very very well.

Very nice music easy to listen to with some very well known tunes not to be missed...So just to add that this is not rock an roll or pop .
But more of classical music I have four Vangelis albums and each well worth buying for the mood of the tunes very relaxing

From the outset, I should warn the viewers at home that, when you first listen to this cracking album, you'll experience a LOT of deja ecouter moments, as in 'where have I heard THAT song before?' But fret not, you know more Vangelis than you think you do! Just to help you out, 'Pulstar' was used in the end credits of Johnny Ball's show 'Think Again', and 'Ask the mountains' in a washing machine advert! My favourite track is 'Rachel's Song', the first track on cd2, which is haunting and beautiful, and I swear it's been sampled on a club track, but, which one? Answers on a postcard please! Overall, it's a fabulous listening experience, and it's very difficult to determine which musical genre he belongs to. It's one of those rare albums where you don't skip tracks to get to the good stuff because, they're ALL good! Everyone should have this in their cd collection! So...what are you waiting for?
