I am a fan of the duo's many songs and their interpretations of other's tunes.
There are many good tunes on this compilation, but I bought this on the whim.

These records don't match the titles on their real discography. I could have, of course, easily checked this out, and have only myself to blame for not taking the time to checking it out. As a serious collector and an afficinado of buying the actual records the artists made, I would not recommend this collection. On the other hand, if you can put this aspect avside, this is a whole lot tunes on the cheap. But as their 1962 record was called: "Don't play me on the cheap", I will look further the next time I buy a box, in addition to the excellent best of records I've have of the duo. But this cover, as mentioned, a whole lot of ground the Ike & Tina, but it is not their actual records. If this don't bother you, buy it. But don't blame me.💩✌😊

ike and tina fans: don't bother with this. i don't know where these recordings have been dug up from but they are no studio quality. voices are muffled and i am sure, it's not even Tina Turner singing on a lot of them. The sleeve notes are brief and non-discriptive. it doesn't actually state that they are original recordings by Ike & Tina so it is well possible that they're not...

really, don't bother.

HASH(0x94a82b94) out of 5 stars The Ultimate Tina Turner Collection - 1960 to 1973 19 Mar. 2010
By alanhouston - Published on
Fans of Tina Turner's amazing R & B singing are frustrated when they look for the music Tina recorded between 1960 and 1973. She recorded for five or six record labels in that period, most of which were "fly by night" operations that went out business decades ago. As a result, the original studio masters for most of her music from that period have been lost. Other studio master tapes, such as those for her Phil Spector sessions, are under "lock and key" and are not available to re-issue companies.

As a result, the numerous CD's available with Tina's music from that period tend to re-cycle the same ten or fifteen songs where the masters of widely varying quality are easily available. A Tina fan seeking a more complete collection from the 1960's would need to buy fifteen or more CD's to end up with just fifty or sixty different songs.

"Ike & Tina Turner - The Collection", from the UK re-issue company "Entertain Me", has over 130 songs. Of those, about 10 are Ike's instrumentals, or alternate versions of Tina's songs. The remaining 120 songs feature Tina singing. Those songs include "hits", Tina's version of hits from other artists, and lots of rare or little known songs, including live performances. About 30 of the recordings come from high quality masters, another 30 or so come from good quality masters, and the remaining 60 or so come from masters of poor or very poor quality. About ten songs come from sources so poor that they are almost painful to hear. Many of the "live" recordings sound as if they were recorded by someone who had a $20 cassette recorder concealed in their pocket.

As bad as the sound quality is on many songs, this collection is both a treasure and a bargain. Tina is one of the GREAT R & B singers. Getting the opportunity to hear the 80 or 100 songs in the "Collection" that are rare or hard to find is worth far, far more than the $30 price...the alternative of buying a dozen or more "Ike & Tina" CD's would cost hundreds of dollars and yield far fewer songs, beyond the "big hits".

Some of the highlights of "The Collection" include "Come Together", "Help Me Make It Through the Night", "Livin' For the City", "I'm Ripe", "Ain't Nobody's Business", "Never Been To Spain", "Get Back", "Oh My My", "Something", "Can't Stop Loving You", "Drift Away", as well as her "hits", "Nutbush City Limits", "A Fool in Love", "River Deep, Mountain High", "Proud Mary", "Gonna Work Out Fine", and "Sexy Ida".

After listening to "The Collection" several more times, I will put my favorite 60 or 70 songs on my computer hard drive for future many $30 music collections yield 60 songs worth hearing over and over, year after year, decade after decade?

HASH(0x94402360) out of 5 stars Beware! Sourced from mp3s. 15 Dec. 2008
By Rob G. - Published on
The music here is good. The presentation, as is typical for so much 60s & 70s Turners stuff, is horrible. Tracks are scattered over 10 discs with no rhyme or reason. And, of course, there are no sleeve notes to tell you what you're listening to. The final insult is that this set is clearly sourced from mp3s. Even on a cheap boom box, I could hear plenty of artifacts, like someone burned a bunch of 128kbp mp3s to disc and created this set. Sadly, this music has yet to get the collection it deserves, but avoid this set like the plague, no matter how cheap it is offered.

HASH(0x9550f7b0) out of 5 stars cheezy production but worth getting at a low price 7 Aug. 2013

Yes, the production of this cheap box set is pretty crude, but 10 CDs of raw, gritty R&B, by Ike & Tina Turner make this box a bargain at the super low price I paid for it. Just turn your bass and treble 3/4 of the way down and let it rock.
