I've owned a copy of the authors first book 'Sound of Surprise' for many years. I dipped into it again recently & wanted more. This book delivers in spades. Anyone who loves jazz & fine writing should have this in their collection. Balliett writes with a sharp no nonsense style that takes the reader to the heart of the matter without fluff or padding. Its a book to dip into or as I intend to do read from cover to cover & savour. Highly recommended.
