There is an awful lot here and you are not going to get through it in many months, 2-5 poems at a time max 2 times a day is enough. Heaney is a towering figure and is to be highly commended in producing such a record of his work. I have early recordings from the radio of some of these poems and some have a certain youthful zest that these versions lack but I have no regrets. A tremendous boxed set.

I do not live and breathe poetry but I've been a fan of Mr. Heaney for some time. If you have ever wanted an introduction to modern Irish poetry Mr. Heaney is a good place to start. When you decide you need to delve deepen into his work this collection is a must.

His poems reflect his and Ireland's last 70 years without a strident tone; all spoken in his mellow northern Irish accent. The poems can be direct, they twist, they juxtapose, they are life.

...comes through very well in these recordings. I had an inkling I would like them, because I suspected the voice would be familiar to me, well it is and I do. Irish and rural, a picture is presented and a story is told, in the compact package of a poem. It's amazing really, really amazing amazon.

So many poets are such poor performers of their work that one may approach this hefty set with understandable apprehension. But Heaney is the exception that proves the rule: he reads his poems as brilliantly as he writes them--which is to say very well indeed and with just the right emotion and nuance. It's as if he wrote them himself!

I was satisfied with the prompt receipt of the Heaney audio tapes. I was surprised that some of the little card slips holding the discs were not well glued at the seams and were coming apart. I was more distressed when I played the first disc from Death of Naturalist and found that some of the recordings were skipping and repeating the words. There are another 14 discs to play and I am afraid that there may be similar faults in some or all of the other discs.I have lost confidence in this seller but found the fault ,too late before ordering a second box of the collected poems as a present for a friend.I did not complain at the time as i thought there would only be hassle, and the only reason I am writing this review is because you have requested it in an email you sent to me.
