Top customer reviews
1.Still On It (Featuring Method Man & Paul Wall) - This track is FIYAAHH!(as they say) club-ready song and only Ashanti could pull this one off its a great track and should be released over here as a single it's one of the best things shes ever done with a great cameo from the Tical himself Method Man and newcomer Paul Wall this is definately one for the clubs 10/10
2.Only U (Featuring Black Child,Caddillac Tah,Ja Rule & Merce) -This was a remix that was floating about on the internet when the original became a massive although when i heard it, it had Juelz Santana & Cam'Ron from DipSet but this one isn't too bad but the original is much better 7/10
3.I Love You - This should have been on Concrete Rose or at least be the next single released from this album it's a really nice sweet mid-tempo jam she sounds really nice i actually did hear this quite a while ago but it seems more polished and tweaked a little. 10/10
4.Rain On Me (Featuring Charli Baltimore,Hussein Fatal & Ja Rule) - OK if you ever did buy the Rain On Me single like i did you'll know this remix there was also a video for this as well. It's actually a good remix it has re-sung lyrics its more of an inspirational song rather than a heartbreaking song like the original but Charli B makes this song very good Ja & Fatal kinda weak but i still enjoy this even though it's nearly 3 years old 10/10
5.Still Down (Featuring Caddillac Tah) - Original is from Concrete Rose and featured T.I. I gotta say this isn't the best remix the original was fantastic Caddi jus chats too much at the start i do like it though again has re-sung lyrics and a totally different beat a good song but i would say it's the worst on the album 6/10
6.Show You - Another new track. It's ok i like the chorus she just singing how she's down for the one shes with but i can't help to think how dated it really sounds but i'm glad theres no rapper on this one 7/10
7.I Found It In You - Her vocals are quite beautiful on this one a song thats reminiscent of someone like Chante Moore or Tamia its a nice little mid-tempo song maybe dedicated to her boyfriend Nelly (we all know theyre dating!) could maybe a single release but i highly doubt it 8/10
8.Breakup 2 Makeup (Featuring Black Child) - This was released as the 3rd single from Chapter II in the US i personally think the original would have done better (remix didnt even chart) I really don't like this one maybe Ashanti was going for street appeal but she never fount it 7/10
9.Rock Wit U (Aww Baby) [Remix] - Samples Michael Jacksons "Rock With You" it actually blends very well this is also a very old song i really like it though she actually sings some of MJ's classic a nice addition 10/10
10.Focus (Featuring Free)- Is no different from the original apart from the additional rap from Free i still like this song and it should have been the 3rd single from Concrete Rose (the video was made and everything!) a good way to end it 10/10
1.Still On It
2.I Love You
4.Rock Wit U
5.Rain On Me
If your a hardcore fan of the Inc's Princess then i would buy it other than that i wouldn't it's just for her REAL fans
Ashanti creates a spectacular collection of hip-hop jams with phenomenal featured artists that enhance the experience. Rap and hip-hop junkies will get their dose of pleasure! R&B fans may find the uplifting sounds, bouncy beats, and raw funky styles sensational provided they like featured artists, rap, and diverse hip-hop sounds. Club freaks and party animals will get their freak on if they can replace the swirling techno trance with rap and rawer mixes/remixes not really dancey in the expensive fancy night club but perhaps in the soulful, funky, party wild small clubs that get so filled the smoke is everywhere, the police is circling, and the guys are fierce looking like thugs but being true gentlemen.
Paul Wall was my big shocker when I saw him rapping on 1 of Hulk Hogan's daughter's, Brooke Hogan's, song found on Undiscovered titled, "About Us". He's got a very nice rap style very unique and definitely smooth! When you combine Method Man and Ashanti plus bangin' bass lines that are booming, smokin', and off the charts you have music like track one "Still On It". Ashanti sounds really good at the end of the song displaying much deeper vocals.
The majority of the songs flow very much filled with rap, hip-hop, and raw "on your face" fast energizing styles never boring nor tiring on some while a few with softer, smoother friendlier styles. The "Only U Remix" has to be one of my favorites for the lyrics that are so sensual, and aggressive in nature. Ashanti sounds fierce yet soft, Ja Rule immediately jumps out like a surprise box along Caddillac Tah, and Merce.
My favorite hip-hop song would have to be "Rain On Me Remix featuring Ja Rule, Charli Baltimore & Hussein Fatal" for the loud rap, and the deep vocals by Ashanti. The words to the song are also easy to relate to creating sort of a buzz when you hear the different rap artists do their thing, and then Ashanti. It's catchy, infectious, and definitely rap all the way. Ja Rule has been criticized for having a raspy voice but it works quite nicely here. Again, there's no club DJ tribal drums or spiraling trance.
The song that has the deepest emotion would have to be "Still Down Remix" featuring Caddillac Tah. It showcases how the strength of character is vital in proving that you can survive the streets, feel confident, and be ready to take on anything by not letting the envy, jealousy, or negativity get a piece of you. "I don't want to be just another memory...". The rap is so good here comparable to NAS. Excellent track, my favorite!
"I Love You" and "I Found It In You" have no rap or featured artists for those who like that. Other excellent songs worth mentioning are "Rock Wit U (Awww Baby) Remix" with catchy dance hooks, and "Breakup 2 Makeup Remix feat. Black Child" definitely funky. Every single song has the boost to revitalize the moods, reminisce the times when rap was at an all time high like never in history. It has the combinations of all types of sounds creating much diversity yet all ending up to provide a fierce yet subtle raw mesh of hip-hop definitely like taking a ride on a roller coaster and staying upside down for a long 10 minutes but feeling very much out of this world!
Excellent album I'd recommend to rap fans, hip-hop junkies, and for those R&B fans that like to get down from time to time! It's soulful in nature, emotional in expressing the moods, and funky in the rapid pace! Enjoy songs to make you shake, feel full of fire, or just plain "in control" and alive! The last track seals the deal, "Focus Remix feat. Free" displaying some swirls, dance enhancements, and phenomenal lyrics, along snake sizzling sounds that bring the themes of saying, "I'm finally on top of my game, I'm focused!" Ashanti does a smashing work bringing the collection of songs with varying elements all spotlighting the beauty of the hip-hop world!
