journalist peter jacobsis dragged into the police investigation of two two strings of gruesome deaths when he receives an anonymous call from someone who knows more than he should about the murders. and when julie moore, a graduate student reshearching near death experiences, falls in love with peter she has no way of knowing that she has placed herself in the deadly sights of the Cold One who needs peter to complete its mysterious designs ...
This in my opinion is christopher pikes best novel it matches the level of exellence of his other fantastic novels like The listeners . "Its soft touch can wither your soul ..... , which is the main qoute of the book, matches the book very well , if scary thriller's is your sort of book then this is what you should read. "truly magnificent".

"The Cold One" is Christopher Pike's third horror book for adults, but sadly, is not his best. Unlike "The Listeners" the characters are unsympathetic and the story doesn't always flow with the same zest.
However, if your an avid fan of Christopher Pike like me, then you'll love this book. It comes well reccomended, and is at times, very scary.
Happy reading!

This book is absolutely fantastic. You won't be able to put it down. It's weird, freaky, disgusting and brilliant. This has to be one of my favourite Pike books, along with Sati and the Listeners. Definitely buy this book.

HASH(0x8eda2f6c) out of 5 stars Great Book-Where is the Sequel? 10 Oct. 2005
By Melanie - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
I am a tremendous fan of Christopher Pike. However, I must say that it is unfair to begin a story, get the reader very interested and then not finish the story. It has been 10 years since this was published. Where is the sequel that was promised at the end of this book? I love a good story and I would love to know how this story ends...it would be dissapointing if it never does. I must admit that this book is still well worth reading even without the resolution that the sequel would provide.

HASH(0x8eda2fc0) out of 5 stars Pike Does it Again! 2 Jan. 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
Christopher Pike is one of the few authors that I buy automatically when I see his books in the stores. And this one did not disappoint me at all. "The Cold One" is a wonderfully-written book that captivates the reader by the middle of page 1. The way that Mr. Pike weaves a story around his many characters and storylines is nothing short of superb. "The Cold One" ventures into the land of horror, mixed with science-fiction and suspense. I am extremely pleased that Mr. Pike decided to commence writing for adults as well as for young adults, for his young adult books are treasured in my bookcase as "favourites". If you have not yet purchased "The Cold One", then please do so immediately, for this is a life-changing novel, a novel of intense emotion and suspense. This is right up there among the best of Stephen King and Dean Koontz.

HASH(0x8eda51b0) out of 5 stars Absolutely great!!! 24 April 2005
By sleeper30 - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
This is one of Christopher Pike's best books ever and an awesome horror story. The Cold One is an evil entity, a great and ancient evil which returns to the present times in order to seek world domination. Enter Peter Jacobs, who is a columnist from the Los Angeles Times, who starts to investigate a series of macabre murders. Enter Julie Moore who studies and follows near-death experiences. Enter Govinda Sharma, a Hindu, who is driven from his homeland towards West, following Rak, a 5000-year old humanoid, who is also heading West. All of these characters are destined to meet and face the evil of the Cold One and try to stop it. Haunting and evil, full of twists and great characters, this book is a true horror novel.

HASH(0x8eda57e0) out of 5 stars So super... in search of sequel 16 Dec. 2003
By cassy - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
This book is amazing. I have read it and reread it many times. All the twists and turns, the plot line is spectacular. I have never read such a great book before. Absolutely my favorite, even compared to all the Harry Potter books. I have been searching and searching for the longest time for the sequel, The Cold One II: The Seedling. Does any one know about this? Where can i find it... i am so desperate! I really really want to know what else happens.. i hate being left out, when you know there is more. If anyone can help... please email me!

HASH(0x8eda5804) out of 5 stars AWWWWWWWWW YEAH 12 April 2001
By A. Jones - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Mass Market Paperback
This book was simply awesome. I couldn't put it down, it went every where with me, the bathtub, the loo, the dinner table, my job and I even attempted to read it while I was driving. Christopher Pike is a master at developing genuine characters. If you can make your reader relate to and or "breathe" with the character, you can sell millions. Certainly, it's not an ability easily obtained. Some of the metaphysical hooie made me yawn [the part of the book that took place in India] which is the only reason I dont give this book a five star rating. But hell, at least I learned a thing or two. I thoroughly enjoyed Sati and I am on my way to reading Seasons of passage. By the way, I highly recommend The Midnight Club and the Chain letter series.
