I love all work created by Dawn, she certainly has a nack for creating imaginative worlds and characters, so it was not surprising how much I FLOVED this one.
What would you do for your life?
For your freedom?
Would you be able to kill another living thing?
This is the story of Braita's fight for herself and her freedom
Braita is barely eighteen when her world and people ship her off to the planet Triaz after a huge devastation occur on their current world, Joyal, her future there is unknown, but there are talks of slavery. Triaz is ruled by the Mian, a race of barbaric "Aliens" that are bigger, quicker, and stronger than the humans of Joyal, where touching is most definitely permitted.
She is a feisty, spit fire, adventurous girl. We're taken through her journey into a world completely foreign to her and read as she navigates it all.
Throughout her journey she has one stable person in her life, her one friend, Jax, but physical intimacy is outlawed so the most they've ever done is just look at each other, and of course train together in combat.
Then there's the Plumas of the West and of the East. These guys are the heads of Mian society and Braita is bound to one pair through the mark she is given as a slave. These Plumas are interesting in their own rights. Each pair introducing Braita to a different section of Mian society and elevating her from her slave status. They care for her, but they also have the power to hurt her the most.
Who should she trust?
Cold Mark is a non-stop, science fiction, action adventure with incredible world building and also provides heartfelt, emotional connections to the characters created in this fantasy world.
There are 3 worlds Joyal which is where the descendants of Earth live, Kireg where the white haired skinned inhabitants can mind read/ manipulate and Mian - A Warrior breed that have pointy ears, and have glowing eyes.
Joyal don't touch/embrace or have sex anymore ( Yeah shudder lol) Braita Valorn and her friend Jax are sold off as slaves by the corrupt President of Joyal, with no choice and no chance at saying goodbye to friends they are sent to Mian, in space suits with a limited supply of oxygen! what a start to a new life.
It's a good job that Braita and Jax were being trained as soldiers, it comes in very handy when they arrive on the planet.
I liked this story at the start, Braita survives and is sent to live with 2 men (the Plumas - men - live in pairs and have harems.)
She is their Soulmate, and can't be too far away from them physically, but treat her more like a pet, and when she finally figures out why she runs away... and eventually into the hands of Jax's owners, Pluma leaders of the East.
OK I know I was reading an ARC so the typos I will ignore, but the flow of the story gets confusing in places especially in regards of the soulmates, and the way no human have skin to skin contact anymore, which it seems neither Braita or Jax have a problem with when they land, after 18 yrs of no contact!.
I am not going to reveal too much, I don't do spoilers.
There isn't much sex in this book (surprising for Scarlett), so be advise if you were thinking you were going to get some group sex or something.
Like I said, I enjoyed the premise, and the world that Scarlett has created, but I feel that after reading other books of the authors, it could have been much better, so it gets a 3 star from me.
I've read all Scarlett Dawn's books and there was no doubt I was going to love this book just as much as the others! From the first page I got stuck in and did not stop reading. I have a book hangover now. 😝
This book is a futuristic science fiction romance based on a girl named Braita who is living on a small planet named Joyal in the Solar System of Kline. Humans did three hundred years ago before the present time in this book habitat Earth but after greed, pollution and destruction, Earth was no longer habitable for humans, so they took to the stars searching for planets to survive.
After a tsunami attacks her village, 600 people are sent to the two other habitable planets for humans. 300 people including Braita are sent to the planet Triaz where the aliens Mian are living.
And this is where the book really hooks you in, I won't spoil any more but this includes hot alpha males, a strong heroine and so much action.
This book is another magical world that Scarlett has brought us to. And another set of characters to love.
I recommended if you love paranormal romance or science fiction and new adult you read this, or if you've already read other books from her you'll love this one!
Also don't forget to read the 2nd book in The Mark Series called Moon Mark based on Madeline and her journey to the 2nd planet Egyac !
