This is the story of “A Dying Drunk’s Last Wish.”
Fourteen years ago, high school track star, Sydney Adams, a teenager, was gunned down in Philadelphia park while out for a jog. There were no leads and it soon became a cold case file.
But Augustus Knox, the lead homicide detective assigned to the case, never gave up on trying to find Sydney’s killer. Now fourteen years later, he’s retired and dying with only a few months to live, and wants resolution to this case. Knox, now “an incompetent drunk” had been obsessed with this case, and his failure to solve the case had resulted in the end of his career and marriage.
“Knox, sees things other people don’t. He’s all about the details.”
So Knox hires private investigator, Jocelyn Rush to clear the case. Knox has his own theories as to the identity of the killer…but Jocelyn will need to obtain a confession from this psychopath killer!
Can she catch this cold-blooded killer?
Just read this well written book and become involved with the many flawed believable characters. This is the first book that I have read by this author, but it won’t be the last! I already have her debut novel, “Finding Claire Fletcher”, and “Aberration” and “Hold Still” burning a hole in my Kindle. Can’t wait to read her other books.
I'd like to thank NetGalley author Lisa Regan for providing me an ARC of Cold-Blooded in exchange for an honest review.
If you enjoy twisted thrillers, murder mystery, with detail that gives you clues as to the characters personalities this is the book for you.
I loved the flawed character of Augustus Knox, who although he's extremely flawed, but terminally ill, an alcoholic and determined to solve this case before he dies. He has neglected his own family for so long and this is his dying wish. He is certain he knows who the murderer is. His determination to solve this for the sake of the dead girls family, knowing he has lost his own, presses the pity button not just in the PI in the story, but in anyone who reads the story.
This is one of those books you should not miss. It says so much about people and their lives behind the daily mask they put on.
Did I say I LOVE this book? No? I love this book and must read more.
* I received this book from Goddess Fish Promotions in return for a fair and honest review. *
I was set to award this novel 3 stars for most of the read as the twist is fairly well signposted from early on and made the first half of the novel tedious but a late flurry of activity and likeable characters made me upgrade to 4. It is a good example of escapist fiction - a convoluted plot, a psychopathic perpetrator, a gutsy heroine, a touch of sex, a fair amount of violence and any hint of realism is a coincidence - and it will keep you reading to see what's coming next.
Jocelyn Rush is a P.I. . An old, drunk, retired detective has come to her with a cold case. He destroyed his life trying to prove who killed a teenage girl, but has just been given, what might be a clue. He is dying and can't possibly follow up. He begs her to solve it for him. This case has unexpected dangers for those investigating.
There are lots of interesting characters in this story. Our heroine has a troubled history, and complicated family. She is a good detective, but this case has lots of twists and turns. The villain has had years to manipulate what people believe. There is no way you can guess the ending until our author tells you. A very good read. I will be looking for many more like this.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I found this book to be readable but not fantastic. I guessed the "twist" about a third of the way through and endured the rest of the book out of stubbornness! Read morePublished 10 months ago by A. B.
