An innate Russian criminal psychopath undergoes a brutal programme that turns her into the consummate assassin. Villanelle is chosen as the instrument of an all-powerful organisation who seek to eliminate a dangerously uncontrollable, powerful and heavily protected Sicilian Mafia boss. This short story is a fascinating account of the methods used to indoctrinate Villanelle and her approaches to her life and assignments. An intriguing and enjoyable read that fairly races along. This character has the potential for full-length adventures. Good value.

Wow! What an entertaining read! A lethal, multilingual, sexual omnivore, trained and deployed as an assassin by the people who really run the world, the deliberately anonymous, resource-owning, superrich 0.0001% of the 1%, is sent to kill a Mafia boss. Villanelle, like the antihero of Frederick Forsyth's Day of the Jackal, has no redeeming humanity and, like the Day of the Jackal, Codename Villanelle makes you root for the antihero. Or maybe that's just me. In any case, I can't wait for Villanelle's next assignment.

I read this novella with a strong sense of the exhileration and the pleasure of reading. Its tight structure and its deft handling of character, situation and place created an exciting story with a razor sharp description of a psychopathic personality. Codename Villanelle shows why there is real virtue in brevity.

The hard, economical but curiously descriptive style suits the ...anti-heroine?...well. The setting is the world of huge money and merciless criminal big business....large wealth, without the riches or warmth of innocence, affectionate love or enquiring intellect (for its own sake, not as a trophy)....curiously impoverishing. As for our heroine...is this how sociopaths are? A new and rather scary revelation for me. The story is a short one, but the writing style is tight and efficient, so that you almost feel you've devoured a short novel. Good read.

I was disappointed that it turned out to be a short story, albeit a well written one. A longer story would have hopefully got to know the heroine better and perhaps discover her inner feelings - unless she wasn't supposed to have any!

This short story gives a good introduction to a character that could feature in further adventures? Maybe to short of a story?

A meeting of a secret society of men who have held prominent positions in governments and finance from various nations have met and decided that a mafia godfather must be eliminated. The reason being he is getting to close to the areas this dirty dozen now operate.

Oxana Vorontsova originally from Russia with a colourful history now lives in Paris. Given a way out of her situation she has come gone under a tough regime to become the ultimate fighting machine.

Now with the name of Villanelle Faure. She is given assignments when required

First of two books, read them both and I hope there are more to follow. Hard childhood, prison, saved by the system to use her bonkers mental state as a female assassin who get only the toughest jobs in return for a dream life-style. And she's good looking and a sex maniac.

What's not to like : )

I loved this and its not my normal read, I just bought it on the off chance. Compelling storyline that had you hooked to the very end. I have only just purchased the second book so looking forward to the continuing story....
