This album is almost never mentioned among the Fall's essential works, but it certainly should be. I'm no Fall apologist either - I'll fully admit that they put out some real stinkers in the mid-90s. That said, this album can easily stand next to "Hex Enduction Hour" and "This Nation's Saving Grace". It's not nearly as ferocious as either of those, but the awkward techno experiments that marred so many of their albums from around this time are kept to a minimum and the songs are universally strong. "Free Range" is the single that most Fall fans have already heard, but "Return", "Birmingham School..." and "Just Waiting" are also excellent tracks. Definitely pick this one up.

I know, it's absurd isn't it? When most bands aren't able to write one decent album, Mark E Smith and whoever's being The Fall this week manage to produce works of essential genius without even trying. The second opening track The Birmingham School of Business School's warped strobelight-intensity geetar kicks in, you know you're in for a treat. Free Range has the electro-loop that fans will recognise from Das Katerer and others, Everything Hurtz has been controlling my mind for months now and the closing mumbled word piece, Crew Filth, is funny and appears to show MES and the gang (and it does feel like a gang here) in downtime, and features a Game Boy solo. You can never have enough Fall, and your collection certainly isn't complete without this.

This album is not typical of MES and his band, but it includes some excellent innovation, particularly from electro-man David Bush, on tracks like the exceptional 'Free Range' and the infectious Everything Hurtz'. Well worth buying!

If you've just discovered the Fall, this is one of their classic albums and you've got to buy it. Track two, Free Range has a beautiful techno loop with a background wash of stormy, squalling guitar. Grrr - eat.

This is a fantastic Fall record and one that captures the early 90's line up at their best. Ok, so its probably on the over-produced side for a Fall album but if you can't recognise the sheer genius of tracks like Return and Time Enough At Last then you ain't a Fall fan. Buy it, you won't regret it.
