We expect great things from Nick Crane and even after watching the COAST TV series this new book is a work that will be reread several times. The research for the volume is very impressive. As a person like me who lives in the centre of England with brief sightings of any part of our coast this is a book that encourages a few more holidays at the seaside with eyes wide open

Negative first. I couldn't keep up with the structure. Flitting between north, south, west and east in each section was dizzying. I enjoyed the Coast series on TV because that went from point A to B and so on. I found this book went from A to Y to F to M to Z to U to A and all around again.

To be honest, the whole thing made me feel a little sea sick.

However, I hold Nicholas Crane in the highest of regards and if you're a tad more intelligent than I (I don't set a high bench mark) then this could be a good book to buy.

This is my second copy as the first was lent to someone who hasn't given it back & I can't remember who it was. The book is so good that it deserves a place on every bookshelf. Extremely well researched and written in a very readable style so typical of Nick. I recommended it from a choice of several different as a School Prize to the current headmaster of my old school, emphasising that it wasn't another book on coastal geomorphology. Rather it was a book that would appeal to many interests in things coastal - historical, cultural, geographical & topical.
