I actually bought this book for my grandson for his birthday and was very impressed. It goes into great detail about what bait to use and gives loads of pictures so you can easily identify what you have caught. This is a brilliant book for beginners and intermediate fishers ...well worth the money

Having purchased another fishing book for beginners that was a little disappointing I bought this one. I can recommend it, this for me was exactly what I was looking for, it gave understandable instruction, diagrams and plenty of them. Excellent details, large diagrams, and covered all aspects I wanted.Do not bother with any other book this definitely the one to go for. Well done Mr Miles.

This book appears to be unclear as to who it is aimed at and the order of the information is haphazard. I was surprised to see information about fish breeds and how to catch them before the subject of equipment, licences, basic methods, etc had been dealt with. I have not been coarse fishing for 30 years and I was looking for a book help me get back into it, this is not that book.

With a good edit and a clearer purpose this could be an excellent manual for the new angler, but as it stands it only deserves 2 stars.

I don't have this book, but then again I do... flicking through the Amazon Preview this book appears to be a book I've bought previously called The Practical Guide to Coarse Fishing - only thing different appears to be the cover + the title.

That aside, if you're looking to get into fishing, in particular Freshwater / Coarse Fishing in the UK or Mainland Europe, this is one of the books I recommend as a MUST BUY at both my own fishing websites + those I pop into occasionally.

If you wear glasses or have sight problems, give this book a miss. The text is so small it would strain the eyes of a five year old with perfect sight.
Some of the diagrams, particularly on knot tying are impossible to see, because the photos were taken too far away from the demo. The author hasn't devoted much time to any of the subjects. He also makes suggestions on what to do without explaining how to do it. Example: he suggests gluing certain baits like trout pellets to the hook without giving any tips on how to do it.
Overall 1 star rating is very fair.

Very informative book, just right for the "new" angler.... didn't give 5* as the print is quite small..for 'ol biddies like me it's difficult to read...even with glasses!

This book had some features that need to be taken into account. (A) The print is just too small unless you have powerful specs. Otherwise it covers most aspects on this type of fishing.
