Forget about your FA badges, get a copy of this. The central premise is that skills are best learned in a competitive environment, by actually playing football rather than repeating artificial training drills over and over. The Dutch system aims to recreate the conditions of the street football which produced the great European players of the past, and the great African and South American players of the present, through small sided games where players learn the basics - dribbling, shooting, tackling, support play etc. If you are looking for a tactical manual for different systems, this is not for you, giving insight only into the 4-3-3 system which is viewed as having the clearly defined positions - defenders defend, attackers attack and midfielders do both - neccessary for young players learning the game. There are lots of games relating to these roles, but these are mostly concerned with skills rather than tactical issues, and you won't find advice on how to operate 4-3-3 against other systems.
One final point - if you are a 'hands on' type of coach, who likes to dominate the training session, again this is not for you. The basic 4v4 game from which all in this book flows means that once the game has started you will be standing around watching and saying nothing, since the kids are coaching themselves. It even recommends they referee the game between themselves. Practical, effective and enjoyable.

KNVB's Bert van Lingen is a Coaching Legend although this book is a National FA team project not solely the work of Van Lingen. This book offers invaluable advice as well as drills/Games all geared towards improving and testing the player's Technique, their ability to read situations and their Team Work through Communication. The Dutch KNVB were, and are, lightyear's ahead of our own National F.A.in approaching the problem of coaching players where time and venue's are limited.

I'm only about a third of the way into the book but already have picked up lots of new ideas and training drills. It's an interseting read that I would reccommend to new coaches or those wishing to add another dimension to their current drills/practices.
The Netherlands FA coaching "bible" apparently, I'm begining to see why.
