I've just read this book whilst on holiday and I have to say that I found it a really helpful and accessible insight into coaching and how it can benefit the individual and the organisation. It also works as a self help guide.
One reviewer identifies that it doesn't go into great depth on the psychological elements of coaching and change but I think that misses the point of this particular book. It gives some practical advice, tools and support without suggesting that it's easy to coach effectively.
I would certainly recommend anyone who coaches, particularly in business, to read this book as part of their ongoing development.

Tom Preston is an interesting guy with an interesting and varied background, ranging from commodity trading in Africa to private equity investments in the Far East. It's a fair assumption, therefore, that if he chose to give up that life to become a professional, full time coach then he probably has some interesting things to say ........ and he does! This book is relatively easy reading and practical, rather than overtly academic in its approach. Tom has developed a very successful, international coaching business and he is very open and generous in sharing how he achieved his successes. If you ever get the opportunity to meet with Tom or to attend one of his presentations it's well worth a few hours of your time. There are lots of people put there who will share their theories on coaching practice with you. There are less credible sources of practical advice on turning all that knowledge into a successful business - Tom Preston is one of them.

I've never been coached, in fact I never knew that there was such a thing as "executive coaching". This book was given to me by my girlfriend as I often expressed to her a wish improve and change things at work, to get on in my career and make my department a better place to work. I had the book for a month before I started reading it, I wish I hadn't wasted that time. Tom's easy to read personal account of his work in organisations, his own coaching journey and how to coach just about anyone by acquiring certain skills (which are refreshingly clearly explained), has made an incredible difference. I have recommended this book to many people.
