The obligatory 'who this book is for' section lists IT professionals, managers and decision makers, academics, business managers, plus tech architects and developers. With exception of academics, which I don't feel qualified to comment on, I'd say it doesn't really cut the mustard for the other categories.
Because it has too little technical detail for the technical people and too much technical detail for the non-technical people. It's not the only book I've read that suffers from this problem - it's an easy trap to fall into. Ironically, it doesn't mention the one category that the book really is useful for - the business analyst moving into the cloud computing area. It has just the right pitch for such a person.
Having said that, the book does cover just about everything you could think of in the cloud computing area - infrastructure, security, architecture, networking virtualization, SLAs, it's all there, albeit in too much or too little detail depending on your perspective.
What I did find of some use were the case studies, however, they did tend to be just generally descriptive, where I wanted to see much better structured use cases, rather than descriptions of how to solve technical issues. Use cases would have been far more useful to both managers and techies.
I found this book frustrating. If you are thinking of buying it, I would suggest you browse it first to see if it meets your needs.
The book itself is well structured, but as one reviewer stated it is very high level, so not the best of choice for the more technically minded reader. The book and course also tries to be vendor agnostic, so you do find yourself asking what is conceptual and what is real world a lot.
The other aspect I found was the author deviates from the NIST cloud model and changes some of the terminology which gets a little confusing.
One other observation was the book is very SOA / web 2.0 oriented.
My recommendation, if you need to gain a high level view without specifics and your from the service oriented architecture world, then you would find it useful. Anyone from data centers, telco or other service providers would be better buying vendor specific books and certification courses from the likes of vmware, redhat, openstack etc.

it will be a brilliant start for anyone new to the field
