Product Description

Review

'A renowned quilt maker who runs raved-about courses year round.'--The Simple Things

'Specialising in contemporary crafts and interiors, Cassandra Ellis offers an insight into the history of textiles and shows how to make the most of them.'--Homes & Gardens

'We love this book!'--Craftseller

'Cloth is a hulk of a tome and filled with earthy projects embracing a world of textiles. For those who like their craft served with a bit of culture, it also has histories of the techniques of working with different fabrics and the politics behind our developed textile industry as well. Tucked away in the back are full size patten sheets - always a bonus so we can get straight down to business.' --Crafty

'No matter what you experience starting point with textiles is, this comprehensive book will teach you all you need to know about stitching your own beautiful creations. The projects, written by designer Cassandra Ellis, are chic and modern, and bound to inspire you to get out your sewing machine. The sections teach you how to work with wool, cotton, linen and hide, a useful addition to any crafter's bookshelf.' -- --Reloved

I adore this book, and have made the leather bag with sparkly fine green leather, the linen holdall with leather straps (3 x), the apron, the slippers and am now making the simple quilt. I love the focus on "real" quality fabrics and materials which although hard to get hold of in my city are worth it if you can source them.

I have a quibble however. There are no pattern markings on most of the patterns. I am having to make up where 'line A' might be which means I am having to think very very carefully every time I make something to try and work it out. Is mine a 'duff' copy as regards the patterns or is this true of all 'Cloth' books? Should I try and contact the publisher and ask for some accurate patterns? I can't believe Cassandra would be happy about this as I am a genuine follower and admirer of her work.

ThIs book is written by someone who truly loves the look and feel of fabric. She conveys this love by seductively inviting the reader to join with her in the celebration of texture, handling quality and sewing of different fabrics. I have already made the weekender bag and looking forward to making more . An excellent reference book

I was given this book for Christmas so I haven't had chance to make anything from it yet. It's much more than a 'how to' book though, lovely to look through and very inspirational. One of my favourite presents!

This is an inspirational book. There are sewing projects using a range of fabrics - some of which are quite unusual eg projects using leather and vintage kilims. A good buy if you enjoy working with fabric but want to try something different.
The projects are beautiful and simple - the instructions seem clear. I love the style of this book, the gorgeous photography means this is a book I flick through regularly.

My copy, which was given to me as a present after I put it on my wish list, contained no patterns in the envelope at the back of the book. I understand from other reviews that these are supposed to be included.
