Andy Collins former bass guitarist and singer/songwriter with The Sorys has spent the past year recording his first ever solo album following the emotional split from the band in June 2010. "Closure" highlights Andy's undoubted skills as a singer as well as a gifted songwriter. He is joined on the album by his ex band mates Rob Thompson and Alan Thomas who collectively produce the vocal harmony that the Story's became famous for.

Full marks to Peter Purnell at Angel Air records for having the conviction to back The Storys and their solo projects.
This album, like The Storys and Rob Thompson's solo album is thoroughly laid back and individualistic. Whilst Andy has made his mark with the recordings, Thompson's guitar work is unmistakeable, giving the whole album a lovely, easy feel.
When you listen to this, think of Tom Petty at his most easy-going ('Free Fallin' for instance). It is charming and very relaxing.
My only criticism (if it can be called that) is the cover. It is a simplistic idea which works on a level, but the cover can often be a selling point for an album, particularly for an artist who is not a household name. I feel it is a wasted opportunity and does not do the music true justice.
That said it is a worthy release and a lovely effort by Andy.
So after seeing him play and hearing the previewed track on D.V's show I had to download it from here and I am glad I did.
A lovely laid back, selection of relaxing tracks with very good song writing and musicianship.
Andy Collins skills as a bass player and song writer have been expressed well over the years through his work with The Storys, but this solo album surpasses that and gives us an opportunity to hear his amazing voice in all it's glory.
It's a brilliant album, full of brilliant songs.
I'm looking forward to hearing this music as I linger over a cocktail, slightly shaded by the sun - it's that kind of laid-back, relaxed feel that I love to relax to... and maybe wiggle my toes ;)
It's certainly reminiscent of The Storys (not surprising as they all pop up in one way, shape or form) but it's also very individual, just like the lovely Mr Collins.
It's worth a tenner of anyone's cash; I bought 2! Sit back, chill, enjoy.

The Story's were a strong band of many talented guys and gals as is shown in this solo album
Three great solo albums from ex members now
Andy's voice is so expressive. I love the songs he has written himself, melodic and haunting. His ability to story tell is amazing. This is more 'Andy' and less The Storys. Read morePublished on 28 May 2013 by The Ginn Genie
