This book is another in an increasing number of books by ex BAME officers (e.g. Mike Fuller, Kevin Maxwell, Gurpal Virdi). The book publication timing follows a familiar pattern in that only now is the writer free to recall with candour his (mis) treatment as the commutation cheque is safely banked and he well beyond the reach of his ex employers professional standards dept. This book is full of dismaying revelations and it (and similar books) screams the unspoken question: If the police cannot treat their BAME colleagues correctly, how can they treat BAME communities any better..?

This is a great read for anyone but especially any serving police officer or retired officer to really understand what its like to be a black man who just happens to be a cop over the last 30 years. Leroy Logan in my view is quite an incredible selfless human being and the story he tells is fascinating, his achievements within the police are quite amazing. I couldn't put the book down. I do not know Leroy but I did the same job for the same time during the same years. Well done and thank you. Paul Adams

This guy is hands down an absolute legend. I enjoyed reading this book so much, extremely well written, highly engaging and I quickly became emotionally attached with his story, his successes, his failures and his challenges. Without him, I don't think the Met Police would have made the progress it has when it comes to race-related problems. It opens your eyes into how far the Met Police has come from the institutional racism of the 80s, but it also shows that there is still much more to do. Every serving police officer should read this book. Truly an eye-opener. I finished reading this book disappointed that he hadn't gone higher up the ranks... he truly is Commissioner material. Don't hesitate, buy this book. He truly is a trailblazer and a leader. As a young black Londoner, his story has given me a newly found respect for the Met Police. Leroy, well done!

From start to finish , I found it hard to put this book down. Leroy writes with refreshing authenticity, giving a personal account of his life/ work vision and ideals, from an early age. Despite the many challenges he clearly faced, from those around him, he remained steadfast and focused....no doubt, strengthened by self belief and astrong faith. There is a sense in every chapter, that he grasped every opportunity that arose, not wasting a single second and not being deterred from his life plan by anything or anyone.
The book represents a journey of faith and encouragement for anyone to follow and trust their heart. The story doesn't stop with the end of this book, there is no doubt that Leroy's journey and life long quest to influence and affect positive change continues beyond these pages .
Congratulations again Leroy!
I would definitely recommend the book to others .

Having served at the same time as Leroy I recognise some of his frustrations with the Met. He did so much to change the Force as it was called at that time. As a woman in the job I had lots of problems with macho culture too and had to endure name calling and bullying. He was well thought of by rank and file officers, a legend. Interesting to read his comments about Sadiq Khan, one of the worst Mayors ever. Ignoring knife crime, and full of his own self importance. Thank you Leroy, wish I’d had the opportunity to meet you during my service. You made much needed changes, an amazing man.
