The book starts with a band, literally. Lake Harrison is running from her abusive ex, and somehow, someway, the man has a gun. It’s a tense scene that sets the tone for the entire tale and offers a slice of understanding in a web of confusion. Lake has been hurt, countless times, by someone she once loved. It’s a brutal truth, but Lake owns it, and becomes stronger for it – or despite it. When people question why abused women stay in relationships, a glimpse inside Lake’s well written thoughts may answer that question, or at least give insight to a situation few can, or should, understand.
When Lake and bad boy Hockey player, ‘The Trashman’ Josh Adams have a date for charity, the sparks fly and the past comes back to haunt both of them.
It’s an interesting, and highly emotional romance that touches on themes many leave alone, culminating in a satisfying read that will make you close the book with a smile.
I found that she put so much description in the beginning of the book -- that it was hard to figure out exactly where she was going. But once I got past that part, I realized that this detailing of this was so necessary!!! Without the details, there are a lot of things that just would not have made sense!!!
Lake (the main character of this book) is a victim of domestic violence. Because of the way that she was treated by her ex-husband, she doesn't feel like she deserves to be loved. I don't write spoilers - so I will just say, you need to read the book!!! Like I said before - the beginning goes slowish - but then when it picks up, you will find it hard to put this book down!!!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions in this review are 100% my own.
