Banished on assignment to Oklahoma with a guy that she really just can’t stand, Charlotte Blake feels as if she is paying a heavy price for a moments lapse in concentration but when your career is effectively on the line you just have to suck it up I suppose or at least that’s what she thought.
Luke was everything she really couldn’t stand, a self-absorbed playboy who in her opinion isn’t worth the time she has to devote to him, while he on the other hand is sure she has a stick stuck so far up her a$$ that she doesn’t know the meaning of the word relax.
But they both have ulterior motives, they both have a point to prove …and not only too each other.
I admired Charlotte’s enthusiasm and her absolute dedication to her job, but did the powers that be see what she did?
I was also taken a little by surprise that Luke felt like he needed to show his family, namely his dad that he could hold down his position and complete the task that was set for him, his father had a pretty low opinion of him and he was all about changing that perception for good…but could he cut it?
They really were poles apart, Luke revelled in his freedom, the opportunity to cut loose, taking very few things seriously but Charlotte on the other hand was all about the being a grown up, all about her job, and her family namely her brother but making this project work meant trying to find some common ground, trying to find a way for them both to get what they wanted.
Could they manage to pull off the impossible or would they throttle each other in the process? I was beginning to think that this was all headed south but there was just something about the pair of them that hooked me in.

*****5-star read*****

“Only regret those things you didn’t fight for.”

You never know the pain that a smile can mask. Twenty-six-year-old Charlotte Blake knows this fact better than most. She has learnt to roll with the punches but has lost the essence of who she is along the way. Focused and driven, she is afraid to let anyone past her defences and as a result, her walls have walls.

Sent to the U.S. on a three-month secondment to negotiate a lucrative deal with her arch nemesis, Luke Dexter does not a happy Charlotte make! As the son of one of the firm’s Directors’ and a notorious player, Luke epitomises everything Charlotte despises. How can they present a united front when she can barely even be civil?

What is they say about judging a book by its cover? Ice Princess? Privileged Prince? Umm, no!! So, you catch my drift?

I think I experienced every emotion whilst reading this book and I absolutely loved the banter between Char and Luke. From their initial denial to the attraction between them, to the realisation of what they could have together, I was right there with them.

There were so many stand out moments for me in this well-written story. With a host of secondary characters to love and hate. Especially Luke’s mum. She’s a hoot. She had me lol’ing when she says:

“…. my little boy is going to bring a girl home to meet his mummy.”

I was a total goner for Luke though. My ovaries exploded when he tells Charlotte:

“I’m your person.”

I was also in real danger of lobbing my kindle at the wall on a few occasions. The ending had me on the edge of my metaphorical seat and I was in desperate need of a vodka to steady my nerves – I kid you not!

Oh, the banter between the two main characters was awesome in this story.

I have read a lot of books where authors try to get that funny banter between their two leads. Some manage to do, but some manage to fail dramatically. This book by Hayley Oakes didn't fail. The banter was on point and I loved it.

If you are after a story of two opposites coming together in a witty, sarcasm filled way then this is one for you to read. Not to mention, the romance was off the charts between these two when it got going.

This isn't the first book I have read by Hayley, but I can tell you that she never disappoints!

Wow. I've never read a Hayley Oakes book before and now I can't stop but wonder why! What a bloody brilliant writer she is! When I first read the synopsis I thought 'okay, your typical office tyrst' but this is anything but. The characters are written with so much complexity that I feel like I know them in and out. Some books have difficult backgrounds thrown in for good measure, but their backgrounds were pivotal in the story line. Completely fell in love with Dex and was so happy with the ending. Couldn't put it down.
I was offered a free copy in exchange for an honest review

An excellent read written by a very talented author. This story is gripping from the start and toys with your emotions throughout. The characters are strong yet vulnerable and sensitively inject passion into life's struggles, private heartbreaks and personal responsibilities. True love is hard to harness and explain and can strike like a thunderbolt and this story reveals the very essence of surprise in a unique situation! A truly amazing book that would make a good film!
