'Closer Than You Think' is the start of a brand new series. Karen Rose does mention past characters. However it is much less confusing than the more recent books. I did not feel I had to work out who was who, which was a relief.

The book was about Faith Corcoran, a woman who has had to change her identity to escape a stalker. She used to work with dangerous offenders and had to leave her job after her life was threatened. She has little faith in the police, after being bad mouthed by her ex. On inheriting a house and relocating, trouble comes calling. Faith meets the distinctive FBI Special Agent Deacon Novak, after a serious incident involving a kidnapped girl. Faith soon realises she is in mortal danger.

The strangest and weakest part of the book came from the attitude of police and others to Faith Corcoran. They demonised her because she worked to treat sex offenders and rehabilitate them. It was explained that for Faith, this was the only to help the children and give them much needed support. Faith was in no way sympathetic towards paedophiles and yet she was treated as if she was. Faith was only 'forgiven' for her role, when it turned out she was a Confidential Informant for the police and getting evidence to prosecute these paedophiles. It felt uncomfortable and simplistic.

Overall this is a much better and coherent read, than Karen Rose's more recent less engaging books. It feels like she is back on form. It was very readable and entertaining romantic suspense.

RATING ~ 4.25 Stars.

The story follows Dr. Faith Corcoran and the FBI Agent Deacon Novak in their investigation to find the missing girls in town of Cincinnati.

Dr. Faith Corcoran is a thirty-two year psychologist or she was until her she got a stalker who made several attempts on her life. Faith used to be a therapist to criminals until one of them decides to stalk her. Fed up that the local police was not taking her seriously, she decides to change her identity move back to her hometown and to a house (left to her in by her late grandmother) she hasn't visited since she left twenty-three years ago when her mother died. She just gets back into town that trouble has found her again.

Agent Deacon Novak has also just returned to town and joined the task force there because of his troublemaker younger brother who no longer listens to his uncle and aunty. Deacon parents died young, he and his siblings were forced to sell their home and move in with their aunty and uncle. He's bought in when the trouble comes knocking.

Faith and Deacon were both very strong characters with very interesting background. Faith and Deacon's relationship was also great, it was a slow build up where they went from being strangers to trusting each other to being together as a couple. They also had a definite connection which I always like in my hero and heroine. I thought they were great together.

I don't want to give away too much but the story follows the investigation of the missing girls and Faith's stalker/ attempted murderer which leads to pain and old secrets being revealed.

I was given an advanced copy of this book to read and review by netgalley.

Karen Rose has done it again! Phew, what a thrill ride. I don't think my heart was beating its normal rhythm for the entire book. It was pure nail biting suspense and I struggled to put it down.
The characters are brilliantly written. Deacon is the hero of the story, he is an FBI agent and is sweet, stubborn and so caring of everyone, Don't think he is a wimp though because he has a backbone and he isn't afraid to be mean when he needs to be. When we saw his vulnerable side it blew me away. With his unique looks, Faith sees him as a superhero and she's not wrong there. Even when he's trying to fight his feelings for her he is still protective of hers.
Faith is an amazing woman, if I had been through half of what she has been through I'm pretty sure I would have locked myself away from the world and never trusted another person again but she did the opposite of that and even whilst she's running from danger she puts herself out there and does the right thing.
I felt that there wasn't as much romance in this book as in other books by this author but that worked well for the story. Deacon and Faith have such intense sexual tension that with the fast pace of this book if they were at it constantly it would have made the story unbalanced and less believable. When the tension gets too much its definitely not a disappointment and as usual for a Karen Rose book its hot but not over the top. Its about two people who are going through a nightmare and finding comfort with each other. Of course that comfort is eventually going to turn to love.
