Product description

Review

"Slick, fast-paced and written with a real sense of style. Without wishing to provide spoilers, it concerns the forbidden love affair between a hit-man and the sister of his willing victim." -- Amazon "A woman would have to be dead not to be turned on by the rough edged, complicated Frank Mancini. Pagan Freemantle is more than a perfect match, as she is mouthy and determined to stand her ground beneath the cool exterior. She's my kind of female character! This is not your sort of book if you're looking for a sweet romance. This book is gritty, violent, and wonderfully realistic in every way." -- Goodreads

About the Author

Jayne Lockwood has been writing for over 20 years. Her first successful writing assignment was for the college newspaper of the County College of Morris, in Randolph, New Jersey, where she studied Journalism. Since then, Jayne has been involved in projects closer to home, working closely with other authors to continue to improve and challenge their idea of good writing. The Cloud Seeker was Jayne's first mainstream novel, and draws upon her background as a Chilterns woman and her affection for the US, where she lived for two years. In 2014, the very first manuscript she started back in 1996 was finally published as an ebook on Amazon. Closer Than Blood is a tale of hit men, blackmail and forbidden passion, set in Manhattan. She is currently working on a new novel, set in the Chilterns.

This is a story not for the faint hearted, with strong story lines and tough characters. Author Jayne Lockwood states that this is an alternative love story and she's not wrong there! For me, it beats hands-down your stereotypical love story yet it still features some of the popular formulas, e.g. 'will they-won't-they?'. There are fairly graphic sex scenes which I thought were well-written and add a lot of colour to the story, but as already mentioned - possibly not for the faint hearted. The characters and settings are very well-drawn and the story pulls together well. It's fast-paced, and very modern. I really enjoyed it.

This is really good. Slick, fast-paced and written with a real sense of style. Without wishing to provide spoilers, it concerns the forbidden love affair between a hit-man and the sister of his willing victim.

This is written by someone with a mature writing style who knows how to pace a plot and keep the reader hooked. It's not normally the type of book I read but I'll definitely be taking a closer look at the author. Really enjoyed it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard Core Romance + Ruthless Mobsters = Oh My! 15 Mar. 2017
By Smiles1981 - Published on Amazon.com

This was a delightful, thoroughly engaging read from start to finish, with so many intricate plot turns. A woman would have to be dead not to be thoroughly turned on by the rough edged, complicated Frank Mancini. Pagan Freemantle is more than a perfect match, as she is mouthy and determined to stand her ground beneath the cool exterior. She's most definitely my kind of female character! This is not your sort of book if you're looking for a sweet romance. This book is gritty, violent, and wonderfully realistic in every way. Ms. Lockwood nailed every single beat and plot point in a way that flows and is not painting by the numbers. I've greatly enjoyed her work in the past and am simply excited to see what this fantastic author writes in the future. She puts a lot of love and careful planning into her reads. Yes, this book was that good!

5.0 out of 5 stars Get ready for a wild ride! 27 Feb. 2017
By Kristi Cramer - Published on Amazon.com

I read this a while ago, and thought I had posted a review, but I can't find it anywhere. So I'll give the quick and dirty version of it. Closer Than Blood is a dark romp through forbidden territory. There are twists and turns, drunken nights and passion-filled trysts. I don't want to give anything away, but suffice to say, if you like dark-ish reads with a taste of the forbidden, with plenty of spicy sex - and you don't mind a bit of violence or rough language - you will enjoy this book. Very well written and the plot is thoroughly thought out. Read it today!

5.0 out of 5 stars A freebie that was too good to put down. 16 Mar. 2014
By Grace Foster - Published on Amazon.com

I know it is only March but I have to say that hands down this is one of the best books so far of 2014. Jayne Lockwood the author delivered an amazing story that had me hooked, as I write this brief comment I still have a smile on my face because I feel like very happy with the total package. I know the coverage at first glance would make you pass it by but once you start it I am telling you that you will not put it down. When I am reading a book if it does not grab my attention in the first two chapters then I know I am heading down hill fast. I cannot stress enough that if the author cannot keep you engage in their book then the author in my opinion has not done his or her job. This is a book that i can and will see myself reading over and over again. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A uniquely twisted plot that pushes the barrier 21 Jun. 2014
By AJ Sendall - Published on Amazon.com

I read Deal Breaker, the first part of Closer than blood, a few months before downloading The Whole Story. I had really enjoyed Deal Breaker, but questioned how Lockwood could effectively follow what was a complete and well-rounded story in itself. Any doubts I had were soon exiled to Old Cynicism.
From start to finish, Closer Than Blood has a twisted and intriguing plot that at times takes the reader to the edge of discomfort. The characters are deep and well-rounded when needed, and always have an edge to them. From the alluring Pagan Freemantle, to the odious Greg Roscoe, they are crafted and directed with great skill and imagination. The dialogue is realistic and congruent with the well-formed contexts. All of which goes to form a convincing and gripping story.
A highly recommended read that will keep you guessing and entertained to the very end.
4.0 out of 5 stars Like the plot but at the ending is a little ... 19 Mar. 2015

Like the plot but at the ending is a little too perfect to me. It feels like watching a James Bond movie.
