This "critical study" (if in fact it can be called that) is the most poorly-written, inaccurate piece of drivel I've ever had the misfortune to read. The author (read: Christian fundamentalist) not only attacks Philip Pullman for his atheist beliefs, but also claims at various points that: the church has never attacked 'witches' and that the "state" is responsible for every misfortune that has befallen society, with the Church being innocent of all crimes. Any attempt at discussing Pullman's work comes with a disclaimer that: "Pullman's work is misguided/ confused/ wrong". As a lecturer teaching undergraduates, this is the worst book anyone looking to study Pullman could use. Thankfully there are several others on Amazon - I have read them all and you should pick any other except this one. Unless of course you agree that Christians are without sin, while the rest of society is to blame. How this was ever published is a mystery.
