I went for this because the DTV200 model had such good reviews and the 1 review for this was a good one. I'm glad I did! as the previous reviewer said, the supplied aeriel is as good as useless however, attach a decent aeriel and the signal is great. It picks up all freeview stations in my area, the picture is fantastic with no artefacting or jitter and would go as far as to say the picture is considerably better than my HDMI upscaling freeview box.

The device does a good job of recording and time-shifting too, again with no jitter or artefacts and that's using an Intel Atom based PC.

I have used several considerably more expensive TV tuners in the past and none has come close to this wee device - and as a bonus, there's a DAB radio tuner built in as well. It works seamlessly with Windows 7 media player too. For this price, you can't go wrong! - I may even buy another so that I can record 2 channels at once.

I cannot recommend this enough. I rarely review products as I'm not the easiest to impress, this little gadget really did surprise me though!

I bought this as a leap of faith. Everyone told me to go for something twice the price. I didn't and I'm pleased. It was easy to install, the software showed me what to do and when I'd installed it and scanned for stations it worked just perfectly. The picture is as good as 'proper' TV and it has the EPG that shows you what programmes are on. You can also record and playback. Can't fault it (and all for less than £20). The only downside was the scanning - it took about 10 minutes but once it's done it you don't need to do it again.

This little gizmo plugs in and works! The software also plays music, videos, displays photos and has DAB radio. It picks up music files from the same places as windows Media Player, so could make a replacement for that (if you like the garish colours). I needed to plug it into the external TV aerial with a signal booster that I use for my normal TV as the freeview signal is a bit weak here. This limits where I can put the laptop.

I've been blown away with this product since the day it arrived. It's plugged into a little Asus netbook. I get 70+ digital tv channels here in Glasgow and over 50 DAB radio stations. It captures tv shows in mpeg format and the software allows you to burn the movie directly to a dvd. The software itself is really fantastic and a pleausure to use. When listening to radio, I generally use a free app called D.Radio. Also, if you don't like to leave your pc running all the time you can wake from sleep using microsofts "task Scheduler". You can use the total media software to record a show and then have task scheduler shut down the computer after you've finished recording. Schedule weeks in advance if you want. You'll never miss anything!! An entire movie will be about 1.8 gigs and the quality is superb. This is a mighty fine purchase and an amazing product!!! I highly recommend!!

Update: Friday 18th August 2011.

I should mention that you don't actually require Microsofts Task Scheduler to wake the computer as mentioned above. The Totalmedia software will wake from sleep or hybernation for you. However, using it's built in feature to "shut down the computer after recording" doesn't work. It prompts you for a "yes or no" response. You can use a better method. Use Microsoft task scheduler in this case. You can make it "shut down" entirely or "go to sleep/hybernate" at a specific time or "sleep/hybernate" when the system is inactive after say 5 minutes.

If using a laptop you'll need to set 2 important power management options. Under "require password on wakeup" = "no". Under the [Sleep] setting, "allow wake timers" = "yes"

All in all, I've had this device for ages now and Customer Service has been top notch. If the above seems a bit too complicated, ask a geek to help you out.

I rarely write reviews with products, but wow, this was great. Very cheap price, really basic to install (the instructions are very clear) and great quality picture from a rooftop antenna (you need your own cable for that though). I did not use the provided mini antenna so cannot comment on that. I had the whole thing set up and working in 15 minutes with no installation problems or fuss.

I spent hours trying to get this to work on windows 7 home premium 64 bit computer. I finally realised that it was the software that comes with it that was causing all the problems for me. I uninstalled their software and just tried it with windows media centre and immediately got over 100 channels. I am sure that the software that comes with it is fine, on some computers, but it wasn't on mine. It's a great thing at a great price. Very compact and I like having the USB extension so that the stick isn't straight out of the USB where you could knock it. I definitely recommend it but be aware that installation may not always be totally straight forward.

For the price this device is one of the best I have ever bought.

It arrived on time, was well packaged and contained all parts needed. I followed the instructions included and loaded the software onto my 64bit Windows 7 laptop. Everything worked first time and exactly as the instructions said it would.

I kicked off the scan for channels at my home (please note that the enclosed bit of metal they call an aerial is useless, you really do need to connect to a proper external one) and some time later I got them all, with as good a reception as I have on my other TV's.

It can take anything up to 15 minutes to complete a scan, but hey! who cares, go and make a cup of tea!. Once the channels are found you can edit them for order, delete the rubbish you don't want and then save them in a file of your naming for future use.

So much for home use, the real reason for buying this beauty was for camping.

We have an Autosleeper and on our first trip to distant Cornwall set up the PC with our roof mounted aerial and scanned. 15 minutes later (this time with a glass of wine in hand, hey! I wasn't driving anymore that day!, same great results as at home. I edited the channels and saved them to a new file.

We had free TV all week and once we got home I reloaded the original saved file and was back watching local TV in seconds.

Any down sides? Well I suspect that the receiver is not very good in weak signal areas or without an adequate aerial, but for the price it is brilliant.

No question this product deserves it's full 5 stars.

Postscript:

Have just bought a second one as my son was so impressed when he visited us he nicked my first one. Have now used it all over the South West - brilliant.
