Highly recommended to any coffee or mocha lover who is looking for a gel to provide an extra jolt of energy. Recommend dose is 30-60g of carbs an hour so about one every 45 minutes, but it is a case of personal preference. Like all gels it needs to be washed down with 150-200ml of water, not sports drink as this could cause GI distress.

I've tried Honey Stingers (too sickly sweet with a "medicinal" aftertaste), Hammer Gel (strange, sticky texture that felt like glue going down my throat and nasty flavors), Gatorade Prime Gel (shudder-inducing taste), Cliff Shot Blocks (stuck to my teeth and drove me nuts). I was just about to give up and just eat gummy bears when my husband brought this home for me to try.
My first time using it was a 17 mile training run. I opened it a few miles in and made sure I was near a bathroom in case it had a similar effect on my body as the GU. My first taste was a revelation. It's not just acceptable, it's good. Seriously good. Like, I'd eat this when I'm NOT running. It tastes like a brownie, and I couldn't help but wonder why I've punished myself with case after case of GU when this is so much better. It's got typical "gel" texture, so if you can't handle that, this might not be the product for you. Still, I found it to be pretty easy to get down, slightly thinner than GU, but not as runny (read: messy) as Hammer or Gatorade, very similar to a hot fudge sauce straight out of the jar.
I'm really happy to find something that is made with real, recognizable ingredients, too.
Best of all, my digestive system had NO problems with it, even on hot July runs. Still, I'd recommend you buy one POUCH of it to try before making to commitment to a whole case.
I will admit that after downing one per hour over the course of an all-day race, by about 6-8 hours in I completely lost my appetite for these. (It has since come back.) It wasn't that I lost my appetite for all food or that I was in danger of heaving, or worse. I simply didn't want to eat another Clif Shot.
My other go-to energy supplement on long runs are these: PowerBar Performance Energy Blasts Gel Filled Chews, Strawberry Banana, 2.12-Ounce Pouches (Pack of 12). I'd say they taste and go down even better than Clif Shots, and you can get them with or without caffeine, depending on the flavor. The strawberry-banana (which I love even though I'm no big fan of banana flavored comestibles) have 40mg of caffeine in a 200-calorie packet of nine gel blasts.
The PowerBar gel blasts are especially useful for small, continual calorie intakes. The Clif Shots are great for more substantial immediate energy. Oh, and the litter leash design is beautiful and effective. All in all, kudos, Clif. I'm not throwing away my shot.
If you're new to the GEL vs. BLOKS debate, the gel definitely works much more quickly than the blocks, but will still do the job. It's a matter of preference, whether you want to carry the blocks, etc. The gel is much easier to consume during activity.
