"This book is a pure delight. Protagonist Jonathan Quinn is a unique and welcome addition to the world of crime fiction. I'm on the edge of my seat, awaiting future instalments of Quinn's adventures." (Jeffery Deaver)
"Brett Battles makes a grand entrance into the thriller scene. An unputdownable spy novel. The Cleaner has it all: exotic locales, James Bondian derring-do, and ingenious plot twists that will keep you sweating all the way till the end." (Tess Gerritsen)
"Displaying an enviable gift for pacing and action, Battles's debut novel is a page-turner that may remind some readers of the cult T V spy series ALIAS... Admirers of quality espionage fiction can look forward to a new series worth following." (Publishers Weekly)

I found this book very difficult to put down and went along for the ride which entailed lots of plot twists and sticky situations. If you are looking for a suspenseful read without too much boring filler text then this one will keep you on your toes and running to the finish line.
Quinn's character had the potential to be very interesting for me since he specializes in going into a scene after an episode and cleaning it so that no clues remain to point toward the boss he happens to be working for on that case. Lately Quinn has found himself working exclusively for The Office, a group located in Washington, D. C. which Quinn supposes is connected with a government agency. In this book a cleanup operation leads Quinn to find himself a target for elimination and he doesn't have a clue as to why. He and his apprentice Nate leave for the other side of the world only to find themselves bumping up against the previous case time after time. Just a question here: how does a person carry around passports for twenty different identities with the credit cards to match those identities and yet go through Customs multiple times and never have these documents spotted?
Filled with all kinds of action including kidnapping, killings, arson, and false identities this novel should have suited me perfectly.Read more ›
This author has been compared to Lee Child and Robert Ludlum - don't buy this expecting that quality or style of writing.
The action scenes are normally not too bad and it flows quite well.
The actual plot turns out to be almost too ridiculous for words.
As for the central character and the plot, well daft is being kind. He carries lock picks which open any door in the world; he has contacts in every city where he just goes to collect weapons; he will spend £20,000 on the phone to someone he's never met to obtain information which is totally impossible to obtain (nonsensical even); he has dozens of identities and passports; he works for some ridiculous organization called The Office where at the last count 8 or 10 employees were murdered for no apparent reason.
If you have a measurable IQ don't waste your money !
