Product description

Your own portable air pollution sensor

According to the World Health Organisation, air pollution represents the single largest environmental health risk worldwide and is responsible for more than 7 million premature deaths per year. Air pollution is often completely invisible. The CleanSpace tag allows continuous observation of air pollution both indoors and outdoors, so that you can see the air you breathe now for the first time and use small changes to avoid unnecessary exposure. CleanSpace helps you not only in preventing hotspots of pollution but also in designing clean routes, and it rewards you if you decide to clean transportation methods. ADVANTAGES • You monitor your total carbon monoxide (CO) exposure - hourly, daily, weekly, monthly or annually. • Show the air pollution on a map of the environment and discover new possibilities to limit your exposure. • Find out what CO exposure you are subject to indoors. Learn, for example, how you can improve the air quality in different rooms of your home or at work. • Find out what CO exposure you are subject to outdoors and how the level of exposure changes from place to place and depending on time. Avoid hotspots of pollution, and plan clean routes to keep your exposure to a minimum. • Completely portable - it weighs about as much as a bar of chocolate, and data are also recorded precisely even if the module is in a bag or pocket. • Look at the provided instructions and tips for reducing the air pollution you are exposed to indoors and outdoors to a minimum.

Freevolt - the world's first technology that can recharge itself.

The CleanSpace tag may not be large, but it is intelligent. It weighs only 51 g, is about as big as a smartphone and never needs charging - the first electronic device in the world that it is equipped with the revolutionary Freevolt technology. Freevolt is a patented, ground-breaking technology that harvests the wasted energy in wireless networks such as mobile phones and Wi-Fi networks for a continuous power supply.

Synchronization of the CleanSpace tag with the CleanSpace app to display what kind of air you're breathing

Carbon monoxide (CO) is a poisonous gas. It is odourless and colourless, so you can neither see, smell nor taste it. It is however a part of the exhaust of diesel cars, for example, so that you often inhale it without even noticing. The CleanSpace tag allows you to see what are you are breathing so that you can make small changes in your lifestyle and your transportation methods to avoid the worst.

Revolutionary technology

The CleanSpace tag is the world's first product equipped with the revolutionary Freevolt technology. In combination with the CleanSpace app, it helps you visualise air pollution trends, plan clean routes and avoid hotspots of pollution. The app uses software for machine learning which automatically rewards you for clean transportation methods (for example walking, running or cycling). The combination of the tag and the app turns CleanSpace into a unique and high-performance tool that helps reduce air pollution, motivates you to choose active transportation methods and improves health.

Reward for clean transportation methods

The CleanSpace app and the tag give you access to your personal air pollution data so that you can plan clean routes and avoid hotspots of air pollution. At the same time you are rewarded when you choose clean transportation methods.

Take part in a global initiative

If you use the tag together with the CleanSpace app, you can become an important part of the world's first crowdsourcing network of air pollution sensors supplied with recycled power.

About the start-up

Describe your product in three words.

Personal air-pollution sensor

How did you come upon the idea for this product?

Lord Drayson, who was formerly Minister for Science and Innovation and is an experienced entrepreneur technology, was very aware of the increasing medical evidence of the harmful effects of air pollution, and he was concerned about the lack of feasible solutions. A meeting with Dr Manuel Pinuela, an electronics engineer who was about to receive his PhD at Imperial College in London, led to the development of Freevolt technology and the invention of CleanSpace - the world's first crowdsourcing network of air pollution sensors, which are powered with recycled electricity from wasted wireless signals in Wi-Fi and mobile networks. Here at Drayson Technologies, we are committed to changing things. CleanSpace is a fast-growing community of people who work together to improve the air that we breathe.

What makes your product so special?

The CleanSpace tag is a real revolution. First, the tag is the first electronic entertainment device that never needs to be charged. It is equipped with Freevolt technology and harvests wasted high-frequency energy from Wi-Fi and mobile networks. Secondly, it is the commercially available device that, together with the CleanSpace app, allows users to take effective measures to respond to a central public health problem without relying on government or charitable organisations. The CleanSpace tag includes a Freevolt antenna and state of the art carbon monoxide and temperature sensors, a processor, storage and a Bluetooth link, all contained in a small, lightweight case. It is the world's first personal air pollution sensor that continuously monitors air pollution wherever you are.

What have you liked most about your start-up?

Setting up a top-class technology company that addresses a serious health problem and really makes a difference. The development of a world first: A product that is equipped with a revolutionary technology and whose effect is even more revolutionary - it brings together people that work together to improve the air that we all breathe. At Drayson Technologies, not everything revolves only around technology. It's also about how the technology can be used to make a better future.
