Born Ramsey Emmanuel Lewis, Jr. on 27th May , 1935) he has recorded well over 80 albums seven of which were gold records.
In addition to this he has receive three Grammy Awards.

He started playing at 15 taking Piano lessons so if you are a pushy parent with a reluctant piano playing child you could do a lot worse than quote Ramsey's career to them?

8 Classic Albums Vol.2

The Label: Real Gone Jazz has gained a lot of praise for the enhanced sound but the inlays give little information.

The main thing is that Amazon, at the time of writing have not given us the track listing so here it is.
Just ignore the last track on CD 4 if you cut and paste!

A good selection for people who like the lighter more popular type of jazz performance. Bought to replace long cherished vinyl copies.

HASH(0x8b9a9af8) out of 5 stars Solid collection of earlier albums including some transitional ones 2 Sept. 2013
By Mike Tarrani - Published on Amazon.com
This set spans the late 1958s through the early 1960s and includes two albums that mark the trio's transition to more popular arrangements.

I'll address the burning questions first:

(1) How is the sound quality? To my ears it's excellent. If you are an audiophile or someone who purchases most of their music on vinyl pass this by. For the rest of us the quality is more than adequate. I own a lot of Real Gone Jazz sets and have never been disappointed.

(2) What is in the set? I am going to provide an accounting of what is on each of the four discs in this set. In all but one case I found the corresponding albums that have product pages with sound samples. Since each of those pages also have reviews I am not going to provide a mini review here for each of them because it will only reflect my personal opinions. Read what others think on the individual product pages. I will say that I am one hundred percent pleased with this set.

Here is what you get:

==========
DISC FOUR
==========
The final two albums in this set are grouped on this disc. These two are transitional works that start to depart from the traditional jazz piano trio format to pop. Both albums include strings and both seem to be heavily influenced by Ray Charles' successful crossover albums in the same period.
The Sound of Spring. Unfortunately there are no sound samples for this album. These tracks that clearly show Lewis' strategy to move from a jazz piano trio format to more popular music (perhaps in response to Ray Charles' success in crossing over from R&B to pop.) The first five tracks on the album have a string section backing the trio. The album was recorded for Argo at the United Recordings Studio in Los Angeles on February 14 and 15, 1962 and released later that year. Interestingly Ruth Brown (credited as the single artist who made Atlantic Records a name) and Leonard Chess of Chess records have producer credits.
1. Sound Of Spring
2. Spring Can Really Hang You Up The Most
3. Blue Spring
4. Spring Is Here
5. Spring Will Be A Little Late This Year
6. Spring Fever
7. It Might As Well Be Spring
8. Soft Winds
9. There'll Be Another Spring
10. Truly, Truly Spring
Country Meets The Blues. This album also marks a giant step away from the jazz piano trio format to a more pop-oriented sound. The inclusion of strings and an orchestral backing is even more evidence of that. Sadly there are no sound samples on this page because in the case of this album I think it's important to know that the theme and overall mood is not what one would expect from the trio when this was recorded and released in 1962. This album was recorded for Argo at the Bell Sound Studio in NYC on August 2 and 3, 1962 and released the same year as Argo Records LP-701.
11. Your Cheatin' Heart
12. St Louis Blues
13. Blueberry Hill
14. Country Meets The Blues
15. Memphis In June
16. High Noon
17. I Need You So
18. I Just Want To Make Love To You
19. Tangleweed 'round My Heart
20. My Bucket's Got A Hole In It

As you can see this album is a fast forward early history of the Trio leading from their early works to the two 1962 albums that started their transition to the more lucrative pop market.

HASH(0x8b9b2a74) out of 5 stars Awesome!!! 28 Feb. 2014

Just awesome. I have been trying to find the older Ramsey Lewis Trio stuff on CC but haven't been very lucky. I came across this set, loved Sounds of Spring in the LP format plus 7 more older gems, how could I resist. Good sound quality, great price and unbelievably great music. Buy it, you'll love it.

HASH(0x8b85209c) out of 5 stars 3 of 4 CDs have great performances, sound is 90% of audiophile quality/probably not master tape dubs 13 Feb. 2014
By Stephen Fleschler - Published on Amazon.com
The first 3 CDs have some of my favorite Ramsey Lewis Trio recordings (especially Down to Earth). The latter recording is superior in it's single CD rendition taken from the master tape. It is demonstration quality. Here, these are not perfect dubs, they are slightly lacking in warmth and fullness of sound (I have the original LPs to compare to). I'm waiting for Stretching Out to be separately remastered to CD from the master tape like Down to Earth. These recordings sound great overall on a high end audio system as well as in the car. They are only missing about 5% to 10% of master tape sound. The last CD has the Trio with strings. I don;t care for the tracks with strings (there are several without strings too). Too much like elevator music. A bargain set compared to buying original LP pressings in good condition. Keep em' coming RealGone!

HASH(0x8b8fd5a0) out of 5 stars Very Good 24 Feb. 2014

I went to a Ramsey Lewis Trio concert in the late 1970's and thought it was the classiest performance I ever witnessed. The venue, sound quality and performance were great. I am finally getting around to picking up the music I never had copies of and I am extremely impressed with the quality of this collection.

HASH(0x8b8fd960) out of 5 stars Hard to top this collection 10 Jan. 2014

Talk about bang for your buck. Many of these recordings have been out of print and unavailable on cd for some time. The only thing that would make this collection five stars would have been the inclusion of Ramsey's first two albums with his gentlemen of swing/jazz. After the Ahmad Jamal and George Russell compilations, this might be the only other must have collection in the classic album series.
