Payton’s father is an abusive a**.
But he doesn’t define her, she is better than that but it is not easy trying to keep the darkness at bay.
Casey her BFF may be the light in Payton’s life, but it is her brother Dylan that is the love of her life. It is just a shame that Dylan sees her as nothing more than his sisters friend.
But when her father pushes things too far, it is Dylan that is there to pick up her broken pieces.
I still don’t think he knew what was going on in her head, or his for that matter because despite the fact that she ends up living with him and his family, he still doesn’t seem to pick up on the way she feels or perhaps he is just being a typical guy and not recognising what is right under his nose.
But he needs to get with the program pretty sharpish because it doesn’t take long for Payton and Casey to fit in with college life and that includes the parties. And when he is confronted by the fact that if he doesn’t want Payton she is going to step back and watch while other guys hit on her, Dylan soon has a change of heart.
Once he realises his feelings are a lot more than he initially thought he also has to work out what exactly that means for the two of them, after all he is party to what Payton has been through, the pain and suffering that her father subjected her too and the fragility of her heart is something that eh takes very seriously. The last thing he wants to do it dive in too strong and have her running or the hills.Read more ›
Payton has a rough family life and dreadful childhood. Like the kind that brings tears to your eyes whilst reading it. She had it all planned out though, just get through it until she leaves for college.....then she can be free. But something changed one night and she had to get out. She had never told anyone about what was happening other than her best friend Casey until that night.
Payton spent so much time at Casey's that her family became the family Payton never had and they were there for her when she needed them, including Dylan.
Payton has loved Dylan (Casey's brother) since she younger but he's never paid her any attention in the way that she's always wanted anyway.
After a chance encounter alone with Payton, Dylan realises he has feelings for Payton too but he's really confused by them. When he finally figured it out will he be too late to go get his girl?
Finally when Payton thinks she is leaving everything behind and move on with her life, her past comes back to haunt her with a vengeance not once but twice, can she face it head on? She has Dylan and Casey to help her through but this is not something she could have ever planned for, it's a cruel twist of fate. This book will have you on the edge of your seat, adrenaline soaring as you read, it's a MUST read
Arc gifted for an honest review.
I found this book to be different from CA Harms other stories. It was a grittier read which featured both physical and mental abuse!
Payton had suffered so much at the hands of the monster who she was cursed with as a father. He was a horrendous human being! Payton's strength was one of my favourite aspects of this story. She just kept picking herself up and dusting herself off.
Dylan was a complete sweetheart, sure it took a little encouragement for him to make his move but once he got his head out of his ass he proceeded to make me swoon.
The relationship between Dylan and Payton was beautiful to watch their love blossom and their story unfold. Dylan was so protective of Payton and he loved her immensely.
Casey was a riot, she was such a wildcard and I loved her take no s*** attitude. Her friendship with Payton was great to read about.
CA Harms is definitely one of my favourite authors, she writes such swoon worthy men and such kickass heroines you can't help but love the characters. Her writing always draws me into the story and captures my attention right from the start.
This book was emotional at times and really pulled at my heartstrings, it gave me a bad case of ugly cry syndrome.
Payton has truly lived an horrendous childhood, that not child should ever suffer. She is made to feel worthless and has no self esteem whatsoever. Her only saving grace is her best friend and her family. She has a crush on one of the brothers, but feels that this will never be reciprocated. Little does she know that he will be her fiercest protector.
This is a beautifully written read, that has dealt with sensitive subjects gracefully. CA Harms draws you into this read, from the very first page.

All in all a good read. Payton was certainly put through the mill, but she survived and flourished. Not easily done.Published 2 months ago by Momma C
