The 2nd book by Clarissa and John, the pair look at every aspect of those who make a living in the countryside, it is not the latest "pc" publication but is an interesting read with compelling arguments and balanced information about aspects of country employment that many dismiss off hand as cruel and barbaric, as well as sound arguments as to why we should be harnessing what materials nature gives us rather than using man made alternatives.
Now out of print with the BBC having no plans to re produce the books or for that matter the tv series this is now a piece of modern history, read it, it will open your eyes especially if you live a modern city life style.

I love all Clarissa's books. They cheer one up and have a great "feel good" factor. This is no exeption.

this is a fantastic book that accompanies a superb television series. At last we find a book that deals with the issues surrounding the countryside in a comprehensive and objective way. It is well written and informative and very funny in parts. Johnny Scott has an encyclopedic knowledge of all things rural.
