Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell (Xbox Classics)
Author Tom Clancy has written some fine novels, and UbiSoft has written some great games based on these works. Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is one such release. This one is a bit different, however: it models itself on that champion of espionage, Metal Gear Solid 2, which, as it happens, is a good thing.
As Sam Fisher, you are out to save the world from international terrorism. In doing this, stealth is of paramount importance. Splinter Cell makes terrific use of light and shadows in this regard. If Sam Fisher stays in the dark, he is less likely to be seen; but, equipped with night vision goggles, you are not hindered by the lighting effects. It's a clever system that creates some memorable scenes and adds to the sensation of being undercover.
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell is a supremely balanced game. The initial training received is just long enough, gameplay is perfectly weighted between stealth and action, and the blend of different objectives in missions ensures that the experience never becomes a chore. More than being merely balanced, though, Splinter Cell excels in all areas. This is as compelling a spy game as you'll ever play. --Jonti Davies --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Therefore if you are after a huge body count and lots of expended round casings don't buy this game (read the box!!!), if you want to try your hand at at sneaking up on people and taking them as a human sheild (in some cases) or interrogating them, whilst at the same time getting involved in some serious spy stuff then this is the gam for you. If you are expecting another Halo type game stay well away.
This is not a mindless blast em up game. You need to use your brain and stealth (and a silenced weapon)in order to play this game. The enemy AI is very good and you will need to use all your skill to avoid being seen or heard. The good thing about this game is that you can hide in the shadows and watch the enemy patrol past completely oblivious to your presence. I cannot remember seing a game with such good lighting effects, this is also good because you have the ability to shoot out lights to conceal yourself. The enemy AI is very good but can be rather to pedictable at times. This is made up for by the fact that if they hear or see something unusual, they will go and investigate.
Another good point is the ability to capture and interogate the enemy. This can be a little tricky at times, if they hear anything behind them, they will turn around and start shooting. It does'nt take to many hits to drop you which in turn adds to the realism.
Other features in the game include; Night Vision, Thermal Imaging, Sticky Shockers (a plastice bullet that delivers an electric shock), Sticky Camera (can be fired at a wall so you can see round corners) and the Fibre Optic Cable. This is a really good touch, you can poke it under a door and see into the next room to check for enemy.
The controls can be a little tricky to master at first and will take some time to familiarise. I recommend this game for anyone over the age of 12 due to the complex controls and content.
During play, your HUD has a light meter to help you hide, so you know when you're hidden in the shadows. There are 12 levels and more downloadable on LIVE. This is the best stealth game around and the sequel is expected in Spring.
I like most fans of the x-box bought Halo 2 and I would gladly give that game away but keep this - it's brilliant.
The graphics are excellent, the gameplay is great. At times it can be frustrating having to work out the best way past guards, security cameras etc to reach your goal but when you do it's definitely worth it. It's a few years old now but not showing it's age at all in my opinion - in fact it's the real deal.
Great graphics, great gameplay, great game - go buy it now ( it's a steal ! )
This game is so realistic; and playable and so plain fun, that you cant stop playing it till youve completed it.(and that takes a hell of a long time; its massive!)
I rented this about three times when it came out, and to be honest i wasnt gonna buy it but then, as i was looking at games, i realised that this only costs 1/2 price!BARGIN!
and (yes theres more) and thers an extra disc. More levels and bonus material.Excellent.that outta tide me over till splinter cell 2 (pandora tommorow) comes out.BUY THIS GAME.
What are you chicken?
The beauty of this game is the fact that you have to play really calmly and with time. For Example you first get to know a guards route, get to know where he's going to stom then you take carefull aim and take the headshot!!
It is truly amazing!!
Equipped with a great array of gadgets ranging from the SC-20k to the sticky cams, ths game rocks.
When I bought it I had never played a stealth game before.
After playing it I was compelled to Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, but Spinter Cell beats Substance by a long shot.
Any Xbox owner needs to have this. Trust me, even if you dont like stealth. SPlinter Cell is different.
