I LOVE HEAVY ROCK and METAL. However, this classic soft rock classic is played so many times a year, I lose count. I discovered City To City during the mid 80s. I have always loved it. I love the Folk and softer side. NOT 1 DUFF TRACK. I reviewed DAVID GILMOUR by David Gilmour and claimed C2C just slightly better, years later, no change.
Back to C2C. The extra disc didn't do much for me but the sound quality of the City To City is so much better than my old first cd pressing.
Obviously, Baker Street is one of the best own songs around the world, but here it is blended (not hidden) with so many lovely moments. Barbara Dickson can be heard on backing vocals in places.
The bonus disc is pleasant but short (28 minutes if I remember correctly).

Many would have it that Gerry Rafferty's classic subsequent album 'Night Owl' is his best - but probably only his most memorable by the title being the same as the hit single that was taken from it, but I've always believed 'City To City' to be his best work, and it just so happens to include his biggest selling single 'Baker Street'.

Every track on this album is a masterpiece - catchy and memorable after only the first hearing, and I challenge anybody to say otherwise.

Music at its best - a 70s classic!

Five Stars!

Baker Street is the famous track here, and it is outstandingly good, but the fact that it gets a lot of airplay should not obscure the fact of how good some of the others here are.
"Whatever's Written in Your Heart" gets a lot of time, as does "Stealin' TIme", but for me, the track to buy the album for is the title track - "City to City": a wonderfully evocative chugging blues riff and cracking harmonica solo to boot.

Essential Rafferty. Some unreleased tracks on extra disc and some very interesting demo stuff which proves he wrote baker street solo on guitar first.

Must for Rafferty fans!

This is an outstanding remaster. I played the album earlier and am now playing it again as I write.

I am hearing it as intended/recorded for the first time. The original vinyl and cd issues were not very good, but even within this context the sound of this remaster is vast. Rafferty's voice sounded weak and didn't seem to be up to some of the material on the original releases, but not now. His voice is right there, clear, detailed, powerful and expressive. I thought I'd had heard "Baker Street" as many times as I usefully could, but not now. A revelation.

I am hearing things in the arrangements I have never before heard and I have been playing this album since 1978 - "Stealin'Time" is just a different song with huge dynamics, the vocal arrangement of "Whatever's Written In Your Heart" in particular is spine tingling.

The packaging is as rubbish as only EMI could manage. There are no lyrics in the booklet but this is no big thing - every word in every song is crystal clear. But the "bonus" disc on this occasion is really worth a listen.

The sax intro to "Island" has just had me looking round to see if the guy was playing in my room.

To hear one of my most cherished albums like this was beyond all realistic hope or expectation given the sound of the original releases. The music shines and the full extent of Gerry Rafferty's talents is clearly revealed.

This is very,very good indeed.
