A good read if you like this sort of thing, as a retired London firefighter I do. As with all books in this vein there's only so many variations on the same theme, so a lot can depend on the style of writing, but this is a good addition to my mini collection.

Martins writes a really detailed and accurate account of not only the one of the worlds most exciting fire stations but the beginnings of the fire service in London and the AFS during the blitz. In the telling of all the great West End fires his honest, true stories of the Kings Cross disaster and the the fire that became labelled as 'Dantes Inferno' where 37 people died, which still the greatest loss of life in one fire in London, are second to none. For anyone who has had any association with the fire brigade this book should hold pride of place on their bookshelves.....I know it does mine.

I waited a long time for this book and it didnt disappoint...an excellent and well written book. I found the chapter concerning Kings Cross not only informative about the incident but also very moving. Anyone who has an interest in the fire service should get a copy.

enjoyable read, particularly the pre WWII parts. Read it after ray chiltons 'underfire' and found many of the accounts overlapped.

An excellent book which takes you to the streets of Soho and central London and inside the world of the firefighters of A24 (Soho). Many personalities and famous incidents are recalled.
