Product Description

Esoteric Recordings are pleased to announce the release of Cities of the Heart, a stunning live album by Jack Bruce, recorded in November 1993 at the E-Werk in Cologne, Germany. The set features highlights of Jack Bruces 50th Birthday Concerts which would see him joined on stage by such legendary musicians as Ginger Baker, Gary Moore, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Clem Clempson, Pete Brown, Simon Phillips, Bernie Worrel, Maggie Reilly and many more. The magical sets included seminal songs from his career as a solo artist and the songs he wrote for the legendary Cream including NSU, Politician, Sunshine of Your Love, Smiles & Grins, Never Tell Your Mother Shes Out of Tune and Theme from an Imaginary Western. This Esoteric Recordings release has been newly remastered and features a lavish illustrated booklet with new essay that restores the original album artwork.

UPDATED REVIEW 15/12/14

Whilst as stated below an excellent Jack Bruce birthday gig, for the first time ever the Cherry Red remastering team have fallen from their usual very high standards

1. The sound , despite a 20 yr distance from the original, has only marginal better quality than the CMP original.

2. The high quality photo book that came with the original is missing completely, and the remaining sleeves photos are clearly copies, not having the clarity of the original

If you have the original deluxe 2CD box I would stick with that

With the issue of the complete 50th Birthday Party as a DVD/CD box set this double CD may now be seen as a partial picture. 2 DVDs show the complete shows originally broadcast on German TV and the truly excellent "Lost Tracks" CD adds a 3rd disc to add to the original Cities of the Heart set. With that 3rd disc this is a remarkable concert CD set. Highly recommended

Check out the cast - Gary Moore, Gary Husband, Dick Heckstall-Smith, GINGER BAKER, Simon Philips, Bernie Worrell, etc etc, it was broadcast and bootleged as 2 DVDs - waiting for the wide screen version - 20 years now

Not as bad as previous reviewer thinks. Hes right there are a few blips. But remember there is a rather large catalogue played live here. From jazz trio, to power rock trio to larger groups a wide range of Bruce’s work is showcased here. His voice is not on top form a lot of the time which is of course a shame.
Great supporting cast:
Ginger Baker, Dick Heckstall-Smith, Gary Moore, Clem Clempson, Bernie Worrell, Henry Lowther, Gary Husband, Simon Phillips, Pete Brown, Maggie Reilly and others.

I've had this on tape from the first CD issue and now have it on re-issued CD.
I still think it's my favourite concert.
It's a pleasure to listen to from beginning, with solo piano, to the end, through various combinations of band.
Wonderful stuff.
