This is a great book for anyone starting out on there Cisco certification path! Very easy to read and understand material. Once you have read the theory the second half of the book has a comprehensive section of labs and diagrams. Each has easy to follow step or if you are more experienced try to configure the lab from the diagram alone. after which you can check you running configuration against the one at the end of the lab.

I used this kindle version of the book to pass my CCNA. It has all you need to pass this tricky examination and sets you up for further Cisco certification. Even after my exam I still use the book for reference and I now own other titles in the series as they are easy to read and provide the reader with all the relevant information. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent study guide and lab guide 5 Oct. 2011
By D. M Swaney - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
This book is laid out in a very easy straight forward manner allowing you to learn the topics quickly and easily without being bogged down with a lot of fluff that makes many Cisco study guides boring. Many of the topics are explained in a way that makes it easy to understand and builds on what you have read earlier in the book, many Cisco study guides I have read go too deep into a topic to quickly and you tend to miss the basics and come out confused unless you read it multiple times and "figure it out".

I use this study guide in conjunction with another Cisco CCNA study guide since no single guide can truly prepare you fully for the difficult CCNA exam but reading this book first makes reading the other study guide much easier to do.

The addition of the lab guide really makes this a very valuable package because the Cisco exams are using simulations the make sure that you can actually "rock the command line" and not just able to answer multiple choice questions and it really prepares you for the job interviews where they sit you in front of a small rack of routers and switches and ask you to configure them, if you don't have the practice and experience that you get from doing labs the chances of getting the job (at the pay you want) goes down.

The best practice I have found for studying for any exam is to have a primary study guide and a secondary study guide since they cover the topics but each book will have some further information or detail that the other book wont and it helps reinforce the information in your head.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good second resource with a hidden gem 22 Dec. 2011

I read Todd Lammle's CCNA book first, planning to sit the exam after reading it. I wasn't happy with the review questions in his book and also wanted more hands on experience so I read this book too. It was worth it - 40% of this book is labs, and they're done well.

I liked Todd's explanations better, especially his subnetting chapter - I've never had it explained so well. I'm definitely glad I read Todd's book first and would recommend that path to others.

But this book also has a hidden gem: The "Super Subnetting Chart" is absolutely amazing! It's worth buying this book for the chart alone. I can now answer any subnetting question almost instantly, without having to do any math in my head or on paper. This will definitely help me make the most of my time during the exam.

Now I've just found out that Paul has another book with 101 labs, also $10 on Kindle, I think I'll read that before sitting the exam. No such thing as too much practice!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great rehearsal 13 Nov. 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this book about two months before I got certified. I mainly studied from the Cisco Networking Academy Exploration materials which are very throughthroug, but can be overwhelming at times. The book is written in very easy to understand english so reading it isin't a problem if you aren't speaking english as a native language (like I'm not).

I rewised the concepts that I forgot from this book, because I studied the CCNA with a very slow pace. All-in-all I spent about one year from the moment I initally logged in to the netacademy and got certified. I wouldn't use this book as a only source if I would start studying networks from a scratch and wanted to get certified. Also I recomend the 101 Labs book along with this. Great value for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars CCNA Simplified helped me pass my CCNA!! Thanks, Paul Browning 3 Jun. 2011

The CCNA Simplified Book helped me pass my CCNA.
I picked up alot of Cisco Press books and could never read them past the first Chapter. CCNA Simplified I think read the whole book at least twice...and the chapter reviews and exams helped me learn the material and ultimately pass the exam.

Anyone wanting to learn about Cisco routers and swtiches should read this book.

Thank you Paul Browning for writing CCNA Simplified.

Regards,
Randy Heenan

5.0 out of 5 stars Great resource to prepare for the CCNA exam 27 May 2012
By Amazon Customer - Published on Amazon.com

I used this book quite a lot while I was preparing for my CCNA exam. I found the concepts to be explained much more clearly than in other books I've used (i.e. Cisco Press, et al.) In addition to the book, there is an active forum on their website where you can post questions/discussions to further clarify any related subjects. (routing/switching concepts, equipment, cabling, etc). Also there is a process on the webpage to access live racks to get some hands on experience with labs. It is very important to actually do the labs as part of the learning process, since the CCNA exam does have some simulator questions. Hands on familiarity with the Cisco IOS will greatly help during the exam.

I found the printed book to be a bit bulky, but I don't think that can be avoided given the amount of information presented. I did spring for the extra $10 to get the Kindle version as well for times when the regular book wouldn't be practical.

I passed the CCNA exam on the first attempt! I'm now continuing towards CCNP using the books from the same author.
