My little guy (nearly two) loves trains and Chuggington so I got this app for £2.49 and he loved it. Then I noticed a free version! Hmmmmmmm..... After a bit of emailing to amazon (very quick and helpful customer service emails) and downloading both versions I found....

The £2.49 app is very good. The 3D feel/effect is very well done. You get a nice little story with ten little games you can earn badges on as part of Chug Patrol. If you want to go straight to a specific game the contents page lets you do just that. Every game has loads of areas you can tap for little effects and the trains say lots of their little phrases with the proper voices. A couple of the games are a little fast and take very quick reactions but most of the games are simple enough that little ones will adapt to the pace pretty well.

The free version gives you the first three levels and story pages (breaking logs to clear the track, hooking quite fast red cards and pulling a trapped train free) then you can purchase the full version for £1.49. The £1.49 version is exactly the same as the £2.49 version! You may even find the first three levels more than enough to keep your little dude happy for a while.

Downloaded the free version first to try and my 2 year old grandson loved it. I bought the full version which he hasn't seen yet but I can't wait to show him, I know he will love it. It really is like a pop-up book. Great little story and lots to do.

Downloaded the free version and my 17 month old son loved it. He kept laughing at clearing the logs from the tracks. Looks like we're onto a winner with this one.! I also like the effect where the picture moves slightly when you move your tablet/phone.

I downloaded this app for my 26 month old who loves trains and neither of us was disappointed. There are a few activities to do as you move through the book which were easier enough for my 2 year old to do on his tablet (we mainly use it for educational purposes). I wasn't sure what the difference was between this version and the non-free version but as my son loved it so much, bought the app. There's just move of the book to work through and more little tasks. I would say I expect it to be too simple for say children over 5, but I haven't tested it out and it will depends on the individual children. We weren't disappointed. Why not 5 stars? I should have probably given it 5 but dropped one for being so good but not very long, meaning I wanted to spend money on the longer version.

My 2 year old daughter loves this.. she loves the interaction pages of the story. She has reached the stage where she is no longer interested in the story and skips those pages until she gets to to the pages where she is involved. I had to purchase the full version as she was get bored of the free version which had much more to do.

I downloaded the free version first but it left my grandchildren (4 & 7) wanting more, so paid for the rest. They seem to like going straight to the action pages and love them - just wish I could get them to read the story as they go!!

I paid for the whole app about 3 days ago. It looks very swish with impressive graphics. I'm not sure how challenging or educational the games are but there are quite few to keep my 2.5 year old entertained. Each game is quite short & he's mastered them very quickly just by pressing around on each screen until the game works. Some of the games literally just involve tapping on a train repeatedly. Nonetheless my little boy has played the games every day since he got it & seems to like it.
