I have always admired the work of Geoffrey Burgon. The music on this disc is in 'Quality television vernacular' style and is superbly suited and tailored to its function. In his work he always gave more than his fee required.
These suites were condensed from the working material used for the dramas, and one has to see and hear the dramas themselves to appreciate how beautifully Burgon worked the music into the action and thought in them. This is not, and could not possibly be, represented on this disc, but, watch and listen to the dramas on the screen, and you will realise that he was superb in his response to directors and sound editors needs. Never the less, this is a disc well worth having.
I hate to use that hackneyed old phrase, but he was indeed a " national treasure" and, like others in the sad cultural atmosphere of the UK, deserved a great deal more recognition than he got.
I have heard, and I don't know whether it is true or not, that he often wanted to break free at times from his dramatic work to write other, more serious things, but sadly, was largely unable to, and the tale that he found great and rare pleasure one day by overhearing someone singing his 'Aslan' theme whilst queing at a supermarket check-out says a great deal about him.
The technical quality of the CD that I received is flawless, the performance by the Philharmonia is warm and inspired, and, of course, it is directed beautifully by Geoffrey Burgon himself.

I spent my childhood watching the BBC version of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. This collection of music is wonderful and I cannot rate it highly enough. Prompt shipping and arrived in fantastic condition. Thank you Amazon for providing this CD. I've been looking everywhere for it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poorly titled, but great music 2 April 2016
By Chronos - Published on Amazon.com

This CD might better have been titled "the Best of Geoffrey Burgon"; only about 14 minutes (a fourth of the album) are actually from "The Chronicles of Narnia"; the rest are from other things Burgon has composed for. Still, for fans of the BBC Chronicles of Narnia those 14 minutes are powerfully nostalgic, and the rest of the music sounds great even if it has nothing to do with Narnia.

Also, just to be clear, the Narnia music here is from the 80s BBC Narnia TV series (shown in the US as part of "Wonder Works"), not the more recent movies.

Beautiful, classic BBC music. Brings back my childhood memories of watching Narnia.

I don't know the other shows and didn't really enjoy them as much as I did listening to the Narnia Tracks. Great instrumental music to have in the background.
4.0 out of 5 stars Would be better with a different title 26 Aug. 2006

I didn't look close enough at the track list before buying this. I was very excited to see a soundtrack of the BBC versions of The Chronicles of Narnia, since I love the music in them (not to mention the movies in general). Unfortunately, the Narnia music is only the first 7 tracks.

The whole CD has great music, and I think I would have enjoyed it more if I hadn't been expecting the whole thing to be Narnia. A lot of the other music on it reminds me of Sherlock Holmes music. It is a great CD, and I definitely recommend it...but don't expect a full CD of Narnia music.

5.0 out of 5 stars BBC Narnia music=magical 10 April 2006
By Rachel - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I never get tired of hearing this narnia music over and over again. Mr. Burgon really captures the heart and soul of Narnia through his music. In opinion, it easily surpasses the new film music at times (both Tumnus themes are very good).

I did not care for all the choral (enya-like) music from the new film, and this music has none of that.
