Carly and Kip are characters that we have met numerous times before and it is lovely to finally get to know them both better and see what makes them 'tick'.
Carly comes across as fun, fiesty, confident and happy and for a couple of months she has not only all of Oban convinced but Kip fooled too. Only when his family descend for a surprise visit and they end up having to spend time together outside of work does he realise that deep down she is lonely, sexy, lost, sexy, lacking in confidence, sexy, sad oh and did he mention sexy? The more time they spend together the more he cannot keep his eyes, mind, hands & mouth off her, the more he gets to know her the more he likes about her and no matter how much he fights it the deeper he falls.
Carly is convinced Kip is a man whore and she cannot believe a word that comes out of his mouth, he may be cute but surely everything he says to her is just to get her into bed.....isn't it? She doesn't want to be just another notch on his bed post but the more time they spend together and with his family the more she doubts herself and what she believed was true.
When they are together there aren't just smoldering looks and sparks but fireworks each and every time. Will Kip have the confidence in Carly to hand over his love and his heart, will he come to his senses and realise that whilst she brings him to his knees she then helps him back to his feet and they stand taller and stronger together or will his past cause him to tuck tail and run.
This is one series you have to read.
Carly Gatlin hates Christmas. She never used to. Her Dad loved Christmas, but he died and she misses him, so much. Now she doesn't want to be around the tinsel, or the trees, and certainly not the mistletoe! Her co-worker, Kip Sullivan wants to chase Carly's grinch away and when they are "volunteered" by their boss to be (a very sexy) Santa and his elf, both begin to warm to each other in a very sensual way.
But Carly is scared to get involved, she knows that if you get close to someone, they can leave you, and she believes Kip is not into long term relationships. After all, her mother died, her dad died, her stepbrother West doesn't want her. She doesn't belong with anyone.
Kip is the gorgeous bartender at Due South. His family live in Bounty Bay, near the top of New Zealand's North Island. He left the family's dairy farm he was supposed to take over from his Dad and moved south eight hundred miles to Stewart Island, as far away from his family as he could. Kip was brought up with five sisters and he is a kind hearted, caring kind of guy. But he has his own demons.
Much to Kip's consternation, a gift from the North Island in the shape of his family arrives a few days before Christmas, to celebrate Kip's birthday on Christmas Eve. His mother is a force to be reckoned with and when she sees the connection between Kip and Carly, she develops a calculating twinkle in her eye.
This is a superb story, the love scenes leave you breathless, banter between Kip and Carly is funny and quick and some of the comments from Oban's matchmaker, elderly Mrs Taylor are laugh out loud comical.
This book is every bit as brilliant as the other books in this series. I already loved Carly from Ready to Burn and I was looking forward to her story.
Kip has been mentioned in some of the other books as a bit of a ladies man but we didn't know much else about him. Turns out, he is a really decent guy, and much less of the ladies man than most people think. Having grown up in a house full of girls, he knows how to relate to women and he is sensitive and caring. He is also HOTT (extra T worthy as Wendy Higgins would say) and Carly has been trying to avoid falling for him. All that changes when his delightful family turn up at Christmas time and set about match-making.
Tons of wonderful dialog and plenty of LOL moments make this a joy to read.
Tracey has an amazing ability to take a plot that could be considered quite simple and transform it into something magical and special.
Another sensational read. My only complaint is that it was too short and I could easily have devoured more. I'm a major convert now and I know I will continue to read this author's work.
I love this series of light romances set on a small island. They follow many of the conventions you would expect in this type of writing but they are well plotted, the characters actually show development, and they read well. This is an excellent story with plenty of amusing moments and the expected satisfying ending.
