I absolutely love this movie!!! For the last few years, I've watched it while putting up the Christmas tree - it really puts me in a festive mood. Sure, it's a bit silly, but isn't that part of the fun? There are some genuinely funny moments in it, like Tim Allen's suntan and eyebrow disaster, but I really love the way it all comes together to work out well for the Kranks.
Light-hearted, funny, and warm. Really enjoy it every year. If you enjoy "The Santa Clause", you'll love this.

This is a reasonably watchable movie, perfect for the days leading up to Christmas when the madness starts to get to you!
It is well acted and you can sympathise with the characters' decision to escape for the festive season. Unfortunately, this decision doesn't go down too well with their neighbours who expect them to keep up the normal Christmas traditions.
There are the usual cringing and wincing moments -enough to keep the watcher entertained.
It is well worth a viewing, if only to enjoy the part where the Tim Allen character has botox. Classic! It made me cry with laughter!

Great Christmas movie with a message about family and loyalty.
Jamie lee Curtis is great in this. But Tim Allen not so much, he kind of phones in his performance, and was clearly getting his cheques in this film.

But, we as a family enjoy this film, and yes, it's old, it's on DVD and the picture isn't perfect, but it's a great film that we get out every year to watch. I love my hickory ham Christmas!

I borrowed this film off a friend one christmas, and because i loved it so much, she bought me a copy!
The film really gets me in a festive mood, and has plenty of moments for laughter.
This film should be appreciated for its fun factor and the fact it is a cheesy festive film with decent enough acting and story line to enjoy watching it over and over!
It's a film I watch every year close to christmas along with Elf and The Family Stone :)

This is my absolute favourite film of all the time.... the two main characters Luther and Nora have decided that as their daughter Blair is not coming home for Xmas, they will go away for the holidays and simply skip Christmas. However, due to their Xmas mad neighbours and colleagues, this does not go down so well and a series of hilarious events unfold to try and get them into the Christmas spirit. A phone call from Blair changes everything when she announces she is coming home for Christmas so the couple go into a mad panic to try and recreate past Christmasses. They go to great lengths including stealing a Christmas tree and fighting over a Christmas ham. Eventually, the annual Christmas party happens and it proves that communities can come together for the greater good. You get a warm and fuzzy feeling at the end of this movie which is great for all the family!

This movie brought to my mind the very penitent question - why do we celebrate Christmas? I think the meaning of Christmas is getting lost to commercialism, partying and keeping up the status quo. When the Kranks only daughter jetted off to Peru, with the Peace Corp and they decided to Skip Christmas, it became a big problem for their neighbours and work colleagues. Mr.Kranks had worked out they had spent $6000 on the last Christmas on gifts, parties and decorations and wanted to go on a curise at half that price. The question that went through my mind was - Should those without means not celebrate Christmas? I think as a society we need to get a reality check on what Christmas is. Also the fact that others had problems with their decision was interesting. I know this is only a movie but are we not over commercialising Christmas and putting pressure on ourselves to live above our means which in no way is what the spirit of Christmas is about. On some level, the movie did well to depict some of the silly and ridiculous things we do in the name of celebrating Christmas, but the idea that we have to out do one another in decorating our houses, putting up trees, throwing the best party without at any time really reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas shows we have lost the meaning of Christmas.

I think the movie is good but I felt let down at the mundaneness of it all. Yes it demonstrated community spirit, but I thought the writers were going to show the Kranks celebrating Christmas without all the paraphernalia, to show that even those without means can celebrate Christmas because it is not about the money, or the food or the parties but it is about the message of love, hope and goodwill towards all men, given to us with the birth of Jesus Christ 2000 years ago.
