There is an ease relaxed feel to this story. The writing flows effortlessly as the words glide across the page in a poetic rhythm. I love how the story shares the viewpoint of TJ, the family dog as well as the other characters.
This is a heartwarming mysterious story that was filled with warmth. There is a religious undertone but it doesn't matter what religion you are, this story can be appreciated with it's positive message of faith.

"Everything was so peaceful, so quiet. The only sounds were the crackling of the fire, and the slow creaking of the two matching rockers. TJ's soft snoring, while the storm raged outside. Occasionally the wind would pick up leaves or other debris that would momentarily tap dance on the windows. The lights from the Christmas tree were the only lights except for the fire in the room. They were safe inside the farm house, waiting."

5.0 out of 5 stars An Angel of a Story 25 Nov. 2012
By Reader & Reviewer Barb - Published on Amazon.com

This is the first story I've read by this author, but it won't be my last. I loved The Christmas Visitors and her upcoming novel Victory sounds like a winner, too. This is a short story in four parts, and you get to sample the book by reading the first chapter. The writing is rich with detail, and the dialogue sounds right for the characters. I love that one can publish short stories on Amazon because when you want a short read and that's all you have time for, they're the perfect fit, as this one was for me this evening. The short story itself is heart-warming and really touched me. I especially loved how a dog was included in it as well as in Chapter One of the novel Victory. I'm a dog lover and include them in my work, too. The author did an awesome job with the dog in the short story and the old couple. Loved it. She has a storytelling voice.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not your usual Christmas fare - maybe better! 2 Dec. 2012

This is a relatively short tale of a family traveling in a blizzard and getting into trouble. Or did they? Mixing paranormal, spiritual, seasonal and just plain heartwarming, The Christmas Visitors is, to me, a unique story well told. My main criteria for rating what I read is first, do I remember the story the next day or the next week? If I can't recall the plot 24 hours after I read it, then it isn't worth 5 stars. I read this one several days ago and am still thinking about it. Second, I look at the writing itself. The author makes shifts that at once startle me and make me smile, because they verify what I vaguely suspected was happening as I was reading. Sudden shifts in viewpoint, scene or character can kill a story if mishandled. In my opinion, this was definitely not the case with The Christmas Visitors. Give it a read. You may find it as memorable as I do.

5.0 out of 5 stars Angels Come in Many Guises 14 Oct. 2013

A warm and cozy home provides shelter to people who are lost in the storm. An elderly faith-filled couple, with their provides shelter and spiritual encouragement to a discouraged young couple and their little daughter and baby.

A Christmas story where Maggie and John with TJ, the dog are quietly, but eagerly awaiting someone...
The knock on the door announcing the arrival of the young couple who've had a snowy road car accident is eagerly answered and the cold family is welcomed.

You'll be surprised by the ending. Pleasantly surprised. As I've noted in other reviews, DeEtte Beckstead writes in a style from an earlier era, at least it feels like that to me. I liked the travel back to those days of simple, elegant writing. A sweet story of Christmas that is a pleasure and comfort to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars What Kindness Can Offer 15 Jan. 2013

This two short story book reminds people what giving and understanding are all about. I could really relate to Brown Eyes. It reminded me of a movie called Cipher in the Snow. I once was like Brown Eyes. But to really give a good review you'd have to read it. I think the timing of this book was right on time.
5.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Read - Any Time of Year 22 Jan. 2013

I am generally not a fan of short stories however; I thoroughly enjoyed The Christmas Visitors. It speaks to the wholeness humans experience when confronted with less-than-perfect odds on life's journey & then having the courage to look outside of themselves to find answers. For me, the takeaway from The Christmas Visitors has to be that kindness, love & understanding must always prevail.

I enjoyed the storytelling style of the author very much. Her style reminds me of sitting in a rocker on the front porch listening to old family tales. I highly recommend DeEtte Beckstead's stories and suggest checking out her novel, "Victory" as you will no doubt agree when you read the last chapter of this one.
