More than simply a cookery book, this is a celebration of the season. With chapters on decorating and gifts, being mindful of minimising impact and waste (plastic-free Christmas - bless you!), and everything beautifully written, photographed and presented. Even flicking through had me feeling that familiar tingle of excitement and anticipation of Christmas.
I particularly loved that it starts with planning ahead. Growing and preserving your own produce, so you have delightful homemade treats in time for Christmas. This is something I’ve done for years, but there were new ideas here.
That’s the really delightful thing about this book. Even for a fanatic with a shelf full of Christmas books, there were new ideas in here. I’ve got to immediately make the marrow chutney. And rumtopf. And birdseed baubles. And sloe sin sauce. And ginger and honey switchel.
Give me a frost and some thick socks, now please!
I’ve immediately ordered a second copy for my mum. Just stunning.
I’ve been trying to cut down on plastic and waste at Christmas so I also love that there is an emphasis on sustainability without being in any way patronising. I see someone else described it as a warm hug of a book and that’s exactly what it felt like reading it.
I know its a book I’ll keep coming back to again and again as many of the recipes would be great at any time of year.
